Americas Is Far Behind In Receipts
This Year.
When it is considered that the cot
ton crop movement this season was
several weeks later than last year it
will be seen that Americas is getting
her fall portion of the fleecy, though a
comparison of warehouse receipts then
and now would indicate that we were
behind considerably.
In fact, there is a little difference of
some 9,500 bales.
The Times Recorder gives accurate
ly the daily receipts at the warehouses
and an inspection of our tiles for Sep
tember last year shows this difference,
On September 1st, last year, Ameri
cus had received 2,!)50 bales against
110 bales on tbat date this year. On
October 1st, last season, oar receipts
at the warehouses were 14,957 bales,
On Tuesday last the total receipts for
this season were 5,514 bales, a differ
eoce of 0,443 bales.
This is even greater than many here
had supposed.
Then, too, the difference in price,
then and now, cats a iiguro from a
business standpoint.
On October 1st, last year, Americus
received nearly 1,000 bales of cotton,
and good middling brought 10 cents
even. Today it is worth less than 7}
cents. A loss of 0,413 bales at 10 cts.
per pound means a loss of 3475,000 this
year, which was ours a year ago.
Of course the lateness of movement
accounts almost wholly for the differ
ence in receipts to date.
AMERICU3 TO HELP VETERANS.
THAT JOYFUL FEELING.
With the exhilarating sense of ro
wed health and strength and internal
cleanliness, which follows the nse of
Syrap of Figs, is unknown to the few
who have not progressed beyond the
old-time medicine and the cheap sub
stitutes sometimes ottered bnt never
aceepted by the well-informed. Day
the gennine. Manufactured by tbe
California Fig Syrup Co.
What a noise'ess world this wonld
be if women were as quiet all the time
as thov are when it comes to telling
their age.
A Typical South African Store.
(J. F. Larson, of Bay Villa, Sundays
lifver, Cape C.lony, conducts a store
typical of South Afrioa, at which cun
be purchased anything from the j ro-
verblal ‘‘needle to an anchor.” This
store is situated in a valley nine miles
from the nearest town. Sir. Lar
son Bays: ”1 am favored with the cus
tom of farmers within « radius of thirty
miles, to many of whom I havo supplied
Chamberlain’s remedies. All testify
to their value In a household where a
doctor’s advice !b almost out of the
question. Within one mile of my store
tbe population is perhaps sixty. Of
these, wltblu the tw/elvc months, no
less than fourteen have been absolutely
cured by Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.
This must surely bo a record.” For
sale by all druggists.
Our People Must Contribute to Fund
For Home
The people of Americus, like all
Georgians, have been called upon to
attest their love for the poor and needy
Confederate veterans of the state
whose home was destroyed by fire on
Monday and mast be replaced.
Every city, town and village in Geor
gia is sending contributions.
Ho far, Americas has sent nothing,
bat the Times-Recorder stands pledg
ed to the homeless old heroes tbat our
city will help in this work.
Talk and sentimentality is cheap,
but dollars aro what is needed now.
What tB Americas going to do about
it. Our citizens are as well able to
give as are those of other towns tbat
already have come to the front.
The Times-Recorder wants to hear
from onr people and at once. A dol
lar in this emergeney is worth several
dollars next year and a whole ton of
gush and oratory. The Times-Re
corder calls npon all to give their mite
to this Bacred canse. Do yonr part,
and, moreover, do it today.
ff desired, the Times-Recorder will
receive and forward all subscriptions
to tbe boilding fond.
