The Colored Masonie Grand Lodge
of Georgia is in annual session in
Americus, convening yesterday morn
ing with nearly two hundred>delegates,
representing all the lodges in the state,
in attendance.
Grand Master H. R. Butler, of At
lanta, is here to preside.
Nearly every Masonic lodge in the
state is represented, and a more intel
ligent body of colored citizens has
rarely assembled in Georgia for any
purpose.
The session yesterday was held in
the Masonic building recently ereeted
by the colored grand lodge as an or
phans home and industrial School.
The splendid brick building, eosting
$25,000, is about oompleted.
But little remains to be done, and at
this session of the Grand Lodge direc
tion will be given for the interior finisn-
mgs.
The building is essentially a Masonio
home, as in years to eome all annnal
meetings of the Grand Lodge will be
held within its balls. It is an orna
ment to the elty and an endnnng mon
ument to the Grand Lodge.
The meeting will complete all busi
ness today and adjonrn.

Henry Ivory ami Charles Perry Exe-
cuted at Philadelphia.
Philadelphia, Oct. 8.—Henry Ivory
and Charles Perry were hanged here to-
day for the murder of Professor Wnite.
The drop fell at 10:06.
Tho men met death bravely and
neither made any statement ou the gal
lows. Both were strangled to death.
The following is the story of the crime
for which the two men suffered the
death penalty:
Hoy Wilson White, a professor in the
law department of the University of
Pennsylvania, was attacked on tho
street near that institution in West
Pniladelphia at a late hour on the night
of May 19, 1900, and beaten to death
with an iron bolt. The motive was rob
bery, as the victim's clothing was al
most torn off and his pockets had been
rifled. Soon after the commission of
the crime a citizen met two negroes a
block distant from the spot where Pro
fessor White was murdered.
On the following day Henry Ivory of
this city was arrested aud identified as
one of the two men «een in the vicinity
the previous night. Later Charles Perry
was arrested. Both were subjected to
the “sweating system” by the detectives
and confessed the crime.
A negro named Stirling was also con
nected with the crime, but no proof at
first was fouud against him. The two
former were convicted aud twice re
spited. Stirling had a separate trial
aud was convicted in the first degree.
He secured another trial on a technical
ity and was again convicted.
