THE AMERICAS WEEKLY TIMES-RECQRDKR: FRIDA if, OCTOBER tit 1901.
AS EXHIBIT IS DECIDED UPON. THE PARABLE OF THE FIVER.
Farmer* Will Represent Sumter at
The Fair.
Bnmter county will be splendidly il
lustrated at the Georgia State Fair, to
be held in Savannah November Oth to
lfith, and if the enthus-asm aroused
yesterday increases to any extent few
oonnties will have fiuot exhibits.
Sumter can compete successfully for
the prizes offered.
Her enterprising farmers know this,
and at the meeting of the County Agri
cultural Society yesterday it was de
cided to go in, and to win.
Mr, James Montgomery was select
ed to take charge of the county exhibit
and will also look after the Interest of
ty any who send articles to be exhibited
lor individual prizes. He is eminent
ly the man to do this satisfactorily.
Already Mr. Montgomery is at work,
and asks the co-operation of the farm
ers upon behalf of the ISooiety, For
the exhibit is that of Sumter county.
Much interest in the undertaking
was manifested yesterday.
For somo time past an effort to this
end has been camel forward suooss
folly, and now that the County Society
giTes it official sanotion and aid it is an
assured fact that Sumter will have a
most croditable county display.
Ever.y citizen of the county should
feel interested, and give the effort his
hearty co-operation.
Or the Goodly Man Who Dwells
Within the Temple.
Onco upon a time there lived a cer
tain man who changed money in the
Temple and who had borrowed unto
his* Household Gods icertain Simo-
leons to the number of one more thau
four.
Now this man was one of the peo
ple; Yea, verily, he saitb unto him
self “I am number one of the people,
for not only doth my thoughts flow in
prosy prose; but evon doth my inspir
ed words run to versy verse.
“Therefore will I sit late into the
night and larrup my balky muse into a
jog trot, that the silken skin of my
words may form some fitting garment
wherewith to clothe my thoughts, os I
magnanimously turn loose these five
shekels.
“Yea, even now the inspiration
seizes me, for,
I love the old Confederate vet
(This live is dear to me)
In his trials I hope he'll ne'er forget
In court I IlKht so Uraverlee.
“Now hurriedly will I take this to
the organ of the people, that all may
kaow (and act accordingly) the mo
tives so generous; for, verily, few oan
read between the lines, and I will be a
“profit” even in my own oountry.
