MESSAGE AN ABLE DOCUMENT.
Governor Candler’s message to the
neral assombly was a salty docnment.
s called attention to the deficit now
is ting in the state treasury, which
ows the state to be short 174,000 this
ar and $103,000 next year unless the
propriations are cut down or the tax
te raised. The most important re-
■emendations were to cut down the
nsion fund to an indigent basis and
reduce the public school fund. The

now the Georgia Legislature has
l to go oo do more free junkets,
soon the only emoluments at-
to thutbllice will be tbe’Mlstin-
:d” honor and the rake off.
Georgia is to he learned a practical
and useful lesson in building good
roads. Next week the Southern Rail
way, following the example of the Illi
nois Central Railroad, will run a train
specially equipped for road building
from Washington to various points in
the Southern States. Specimen roads
will be msde wherever the train stops
and will be left as illustrations of what
may be done to improve the highways.
The proposed excursion will be in
charge of the Director of the Public
Roads Office in the Department of Agri
culture, who will be accompanied by
hie assistant and, by the President of
the National Good Roads Association
and eighteen road making experts.
The-immediate purpose of the scheme
will be supplemented by an endeavor
to organize “good roads associations'’
in as many towns and cities as possible
along the line in order to stimulate fu
ture activity iu the work of road con
struction. If the success of the "Good
Roads Bp.cial” in the South proveB as
great as did that of its predecessor in
the West, not only its promoters but
thousands of other people will havo
cause for gratification.
MUST DECIDE THE PROBLEM.

Death ie a shadow. Wrong, Hate,

things that only seem?
I seek for the eternale:
And I will make my heart a precious

abide with me forever.

The position of the Americns Times-
Recorder that Hon. Pope Brown is
needed where he is, and ought to Btsy
on the railroad commission, and let the
gubernatorial campaign alone, brings
the question up to the colonel in a
complimentary way. Whether a rail
road commissionerBhip m the hand is
worth more than a governorship in the
bnsh, ie a problem which he will soon
have to decide.—Augusta Chronicle.

There i9 no poison so highly contagious,
so deceptive and so destructive. Don't be
too sure you are cured because all external
signs of the disease have disappeared, and
the doctor says you are well. Many per
sons have been dosed with Mercury and
Potash for months or years, and pro
