Docket In 8everal Yearn
Thin Term.
From indications at present, the
forthcoming session of Snmter supe
rior oonrt will be the shortest in a
number of years. Return day re
vealed but twenty-six new eases, and
all of these were docketed yesterday.
Of coarse there ore a number of old
oases on the dooket, carried over from
previous terms of court, but the “new
business" is extremely light. On the
criminal side the next session, con
vening on the 25th inst. will be devoid
of special interest. There are bnt few
prisoners in jail and nearly all of these
are held upon misdemeanor charges.
Of course the grand jury is yet to be
reokoned with, bat unless this body
stirs matters considerably Judge Lit
tlejohn will get through the next sob*
■ion in two or three weeks easily, it
wonld seem. >

Tells Briefly The 8tory of The Shoot
ing of Mr. Mize.
Propped up in bed, bis head and neck
swathed in bandages, Mr. Gaerry Ad
derton talked to friends yesterday of
the terrible tragedy in which he played
a part, though averring that be did not
even know that a life bad been taken
nntil told of it a number of hours there
after,
Mr. Adderton ooonpiee temporarily a
room over Hudson's drugstore.
It was hero that he was taken by Dr.
Hudson immediately after he was out
by Mr. Mize, as alleged. He launder
the surveillance of Special Officer Rea-
gm, as his removal cannot be effected
yet.
Mr. Adderton spoke briefly bnt feel
ingly of the terrible tragedy, his state
ment coinciding with that made by
Dr. Hudson before the coroner’s jury.
He deelares that be ebot in self de
fense, bnt did not know that hie bullet
had strnek Mize nntil informed of the
latter’s death. <
It was a shot in the dark, bnt it
strnok with fatal aoonraoy.
It will be remembered that the bod;
of Mr. Mize was fonnd some sixty feet
from the spot where the difflonlty oo-
onrred, be baying gone off; after being
shot, towards the railroad traoks.
Mr. Adderton states that he and Mr.
Mize had passed a few words m the
house of the Walker woman, bnt that
it amounted to nothing serious. When
they reaehed the walk they stopped to
talk, Mize having his arm about his
(Adderton’s) shoulder.
Suddenly he felt the knife blade
sink into hie neok and, after pushing
Mize from him, palled the trigger of
his weapon. Without waiting to see
the effeot of his shot he went towards
Dr. Hudson, who was on the opposite
side of the street.
He was bleeding profusely, and
wanted his wonnd dressed.
Dr. Hudson brought him to the eity,
and he knew nothing of the fatal con
sequences of his shot nntil informed of
it yesterday morning early.
Mr. Adderton’s shirt and oollar were
saturated with blood, while even bis
cuffs and nnderolothing were blood
stained. He deolares that be deeply
deplores the terrible tragedy, bnt says
he acted in self defence. A nnmbor of
his friendB called npon him, tbongh he
talked bat little. His wonnd is a pain
ful, and probablyldangerons one.
He may remain where he is, under
gnard, nntil the date of oommittal
trial.
