The word “dnty” was used 900 times

That which is paraded as a broad,
patriotic and courageous view is often
times only an ignorant opinion or a
maudlin sentiment. This is strikingly

Hon. Martin V. Calvin is the latest
-candidate for state school commissioner.
Mr. Calvin is a soholar and a cultured
gentleman. The Timos-Recorder would
! like to see him wia out in the race for
commissioner.
Secretary Root oflioially declares
that a state of war exists in the Philip
pines, and we aro glad he has made the
announcement. It removes a doubt
raised by frequent oflloial statements
that the war is over.
THE SOUTH IN THE SENATE
Here are some observations from the
Boston Herald relative to the South in
the Senate:
“Since the Demoorats have lost all
the United States Senators they have
had from the Northern States east of
the Mississippi and north of Mason and
Dixon’s line by their snioidal connoo
tion with Bryanism, it behooves them
to attend to the Southern section of
their party in that body if they expect
to continue their influence in the Gov
ernment. They have some able Sen
ators from the Sooth in Congress, but
not as many as they should have, con
sidenug mat their Senators are so
much confined to that region of conn
try at present, and are I kely to be still
more so in the future. Tho Republi
cans are encroaching upon even
silver States themselves. They are
preparing to capture the next Utah
Senator to be chosen, and they do not
despair of Colorado. From the South
the more important Senators, in point
of ability, are Morgan, of Alabama
Vest, of Missouri; Daniel, of Virginia,
and Bacon, of Georgia. Morgan is
erratic and unsafe as a leader. Vest is
in feeble health, which must compel
him soon to retire from* publio life
Daniel is brilliant, rather than sound
Their ablest man, practically speaking
is Bacon. He has the qualities of lead
ership, but he ueeda more support than
he is getting from the South at present
if he is to take the control of that sec
tion against the aatnte Gorman, who
seems to be impending as a Senator
from Maryland.”
This ia the opinion of an independ
ent New England newspaper which
never knowingly or intentionally mani
feats any spirit of unfairness toward
theSonth or the Democratic party. It
will be seen that The Herald puts
Georgia's senior senator as a just lead
er. This is not soapriaing, as Senator
Bacon'a recognized ability will rank
him anywhere aa a superior orator
and a man of marked distinction.

Every woman loves to think of the
tune when a soft little body, all her
cwn, will ncs\!e in her bosom, fully
satisfying the yearning which lies in
tr.e heart of every good woman. But
yet there is a black cloud hovering
•bout the pretty picture, in her mind
which fills her with terror. The
dread of childbirth takes away much
of the Joy of motherhood. And yet it
need*not be so. For sometime there
has been upon the market, well-known
and recommended by physicians, a
linimeiP called
KSeier’s FpM
which makes childbirth as simple and
easy as nature intended it. It is a
strengthening, penetrating liniment,
which the skin readily absorbs. It
gives the muscles elasticity and vigor,
prevents sore breasts, morning sick
ness and the loss of the girlish figure.

with every article bought at this store. There is; there
can be—no distrust of quality in any article that comes
from this store; yet in this sale merchandise* can be
