New Council Will Be Installed Next
Monday Night-Already the Distri
bution of the Flume it Commanding
Attention-
A cold rainy day in a prohibition
town without jug-train connections
would be as replete with interest as
was yesterday’s eleetion for oity treas
urer and three aldermen. In faot,
hardly a half hundred people fonnd
ont about the little affair.
As evidenced by the faot that bnt 53
votes were oast therein.
As the "issues” (between the ten
candidates) bad been settled at the re
eent primary eleotion wherein 403 votes
were cast, the registered voters didn’t
bother abont yesterday’s eleotion.
Bnt it had to be held, formally, and
the dozen clerks, managers and jus
tices shivered there from 9 a. m. until
4 p. m. that these fifty three qualified
ones might vote. Of conree all the
nominees were chosen by solid ballot
ingjhere being few if any "scratohes.’
H. C. Mitchell as clerk and treasurer
and Messrs. J. B. Hudson. J.S. Bolton
and C, J. Sherlook as members of conn
cil, were dnly eleoted.
The now oonnoil will be organized
next Monday night, 23d.
Ana while the annual eleotion of oity
employes and heads of departments
does not oconr until the first Monday
in January, there is already a consider
able amount of nncertainty as to re
sults and the nsnal amount of log-roll
ing incident to snoh an eleotion.
Jnst what council will do in the way
of selecting employes of the oity and
fixing salaries is a matter that interests
maDy jnst now.
Any kind of alluring advertisement
promising 500 per cent in a]day finds
credulous ones ready and willing to be.

endless obainlbnsiness still finds vic

catch, and the Timee-Recorder was
told yesterday of a eoheme that is be
ing successfully worked here jnst now.
It is on the "endless chain” prinoiple,
and it costs $25 to get in on the gronnd
floor. Several estimable ladies here,
believing the allaring promises held
oat, have sent this|amonnt eaoh to the
headquarters of the coneern and are
patiently waiting for the golden har
vest they feel snre will soon be theirs.
Some of them have already been as
sured that their hoDeJia a pipe dream

belief that they will get rioh qniok and
already are busily engaged writing
letters in the "endless chain,” which
consists more of link than of chink.

AMERICUS STILL A GREENLAND.
Icy Weather Continues to MakePopu
lace Miserable.
Another blast from the Klondike
struck Americas upon fonr quarters
again yesterday and snffering human!
ty shivered and moaned, chilled to the
marrow. It was hoped that the cold
wave was passing, bnt yesterday's ex
perience evidenced the fact that it is
side-tracked hero indefinitely. Every
body suffers, and while no cases of
destitution bare been reported no
donbt many here foel the need of food
and fuel. The mercury dropped to
abont 15 degrees, and water pipes that
escaped the day before went on a smash
yesterday. Everyone would be glad
of a return to watermelon weather
again.
