THE AMERICUS WEEKLY TIMES-RECORDER: FRIDAY, JANUARY 3. 1902.
HR APPRECIATES HIS PRESENT. 'LIVES ARE LINKED
IN BONDS OF GOLD.
Toung Man Finds a Pretty Wife Here
Christmas.
Mr. Windsor Allen ami Mias Nora S,
del Wall, residing near Dawson, will
have occasion to long remember Ibis
Christmas with pleasure, ns Santa
Clans brought one u husband and the
other a pretty young bride.
The couple were married in Americus
at 2 o'clock yesterday morning.
Jndge Allen was slumbering peace
lolly at that hour when u swift mes
senger rapped upon hia door and told
him that Cupid bad invaded the coart
-boose and would not bo pacified.
Hastily arranging bis toilet. Judge
Allen came to his offioe and issued the
license. In the meantime the droams
of Justice Jere Ansley had been smaBh
ed by Ofliccr Smith and he, too, was
on hand to weld the nuptial knot.
And with the copper and ordinary as
star witnesses the ceremony was per
formed at the weird hour of 2 a. m.
Of course it was a runaway marriage.
Yonng Allen, who once lived in Ameri
cas, and Miss dol Wall attended a
Christmas night party near Dawson;
gave tb» crowd the dodge, drove seven
teen miles here and had the knot tied.
At 2:30 o'clock yesterday morning
the horse's head wae tnrned towards
Wedding of a Half Century Is Again
Celebrated.
OCCASION AN IMPRESSIVE ONE.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Sheppard,
With Children, Grand Children and
Friends Assembled, Celebrated Their
Golden Wedding Saturday.
To few vonerable couples, indeed, is
accorded the happy privilege of cele
brating their golden wedding. It is a
long jonrney to go, hand in band to
gether, and when the fiftieth mile
stone is reachod in health and happi
ness the occasion should indeed bo
one of great rejoicing.
Not many golden weddings have
been celebrated in Americus.
Bat this great blessing was accorded
Saturday to Mr. and Mrs. Charles C.
Hbeppard, and the occasion at their
beautifnl oonntry homo, attended by
scores of guests, will long bo remem
bered.
It was at 2 o’clock that Mr, and Mrs.

LITTLE DISORDER IN AMERICUS.
Sheppard, preceded by their sous,
Dawson and the yonng conple drove I daughters and grandchildren, entered
home to "break tho nows to mother.”!the prettily decorated parlors, the oth
ers forming a half oirole abont the ven-
crnblo couple. Many soft lights, in
golden blending, rendered the scene
one of surpassing boaaty.l
Sweetest memories of another occa
sion fifty years agone crowded upon
the aged couple as Rov. It. L. Bivins
arose and addressed them.
In n few well ohosen sentences bo
told tbomhowwonderfnlly blossed they
were, and spoke of the beanty of pure
and holy marriage, closing by invok
ing a blessing npon the sged conple
and their descendants, Mr. Sheppard
replied briefly and feelingly to Mr.
Bivins.
The company then entered the din
ing room to partake of the wedding
feast
Here, as in the parlors, the decora
tionsworo in gold. A ohain of fifty
golden stars stretched the length of the
table, in the centre of which was a
golden pyramid lighted by 50 candles
As the gnests entered tho dining
room two beontifnl yonng girls, Misses
Blanche Pryor and Rosa Howell, pre
sented each with a badgo of golden
ribbon bearing the dates, 1851-1001,
that of the marriage and of tho golden
wodding a half centnry later, the namo
Sheppard appearing thereon.
The golden wedding feast; the boau-
tiful tokens of esteem, all in gold; the
congratulations and good cheer, made
it a happy oocasion.
Thau Mr. and Mrs, Sheppard, tho
vonerable "bride and groom" at this
wedding, none in Sumtor connty are
more widely known or more beloved.
And in',the golden sunset of life, near
ing tboir fonr score voara, tboy can
look back npon a life fall of love and
golden deeds.
Tho world is bettor, that they have
lived. May their years of usefulness
hero be still lengthened, and crowns of
gold bo theirs on high.
No Casualties to Report as Result of
Christmas.
Thanks to the efficiency of the po
lice force, Americas has no cssnaltv to
report daring tho Christmas festivities.
There was far less drunkenness and
rowdyism here than ever before npon
a similar occasion, and not a crime has
been placed npon the oonrt calendar
this week, so far. Mayor Folder sup
pressed the oannon cracker nuisance
on the business stroets where proper
ty would have been endangered, and
pyroteobnics, plenty of thorn, were sot
off in back yards of residences where
the danger was verv greatly lessened
Amenona has rarely known a moro
peaceful, orderly Christmas, though
other Georgia towns were scenes of
bloodshed, murder, accidental killings
and lesser casualties.

THE FARM.
There's many a successful businei _
man who sits in his city office and let®
his mind slip liack to his boyhood day
on the farm. How good it felt to live 1
What an appetite he had! How pood
everything tasted ! How sound his sleep
was ! How eagerly he rose with the sun
and raced with him through the long
day. And now he’s a successful man,
But he can’t sleep. He doesn’t enjoy
his food. His stomach is weak, his
nerves are shaken, and he no more rises
with the sun to race eagerly against him,
Ilis vitality is low and now and again
his heart seems to plunge in his breast
as if it would break loose. That’s the
price he lias paid for success.
The mischief of the whole business is
that he buys "tablets” of one sort or
another to "aid” his digestion, and in
dulges in bromides and other nerve
stimulants, just to hold himself together,
and wonders why he seems to be getting
worse.
The whole trouble with such a man
generally lies in what is called a "weak n
stomach. . The food he eats does not
nourish him because it is only partially
digested and assimilated. No man can
be stronger than his stomach, because it
is in tho stomach and allied organs of
digestion and nutrition that strength is
made from the food which is eaten.
Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discov
ery cures diseases of the stomach and
other organs of digestion and nutrition.
It restores the strength of the body in
the only way strength can lie restored,
by food which is perfectly digested and
assimilated, when the diseased stomach
(with its allied organs) is cured of dis
ease. It is a blood-making, body-build
ing medicine, inasmuch as blood is made
from food and the hotly is built up by
blood. It is not a stimulant, containing
neither alcohol or any other narcotic.

Columbia, Tenn,. Dec. 27.—The Rev.
A. J. Brooks, a Baptist preacher, was
shot and killed in the Enterprise neigh-

and Wisdom had trouble about a year
ago. when the latter warned the Rev.
Mr. Brooks never to speak to him
again.
The two men met. and it is claimed
the preacher greeted Wisdom and a
companion pleasantly.
Wisdom thereupon turned and shot
the preacher, who died in 20 minutes.
