Negroes Dig In the Dirt In Hunt For
Coin.
When the old markot lionso was
hsnled away yesterday from the cor
ner of Lamar and Jackson streets a
horde of negroes, old and young, fell
upon the site and began digging for
lost treasure. The old honse had
stood there for twenty years or longer,
and many coins had slipped through
the cracks in the floor. One urchin
was rewarded with a find of $2.5#,
while others picked ,np stray pennies
and nickels. The old building is be
ing dragged down near the marble
yard to give place to the brick build
ing to be erected at the corner.

Destroyed.
The Bealtb Department of New
York has seized several tons of Sweet
heart Baking Powder, made by tbe
Southern Soda Works, of Nashville,
Tenn., fonnd in that oily. Samples of
the baking powder were analyzed and
fonnd to contain alum and ground
rook, It was deolared dangerous to
health and dumped into the doek.
It is stated that this brand of baking
powder has been placed upon sale in
this vicinity whsre it is retailed at
prices from ten to twenty-flve cents a
pound. It was being retailed in New
York at four cents a pound. Consum
ers should look out for it.
