BIG TOWN OF OURS.
THE PITH AND POINT
OF WHAT IS SAID
By People of Americas in Variout
Walks.
TALKED WHILE THEY TRADED.
A Roundup Of The Hews and Gossip
of a Day Here in Americas — A
Bunch of Little Tales Whacked off
Quite Short.
Freezes jsherry, pineapple and choco
late, are served at Hudson's Drugstore.
Our handsome new fountain will arrive
shortly.
The pienlo season will be in full
blast in another week, and Magnolia
Dell, Holly and Myrtle Springs will
be in favor.
A dozen fishing parties went out
from Amerlous yesterday, and the fes
tive stumn-knocker and perch had a
very cioBe call.
Hon. T. G, Hudson was in the oily
yesterday. He expresses the belief
that he will win in the senatorial race
in this district.
Very little'is heard as yet anent the
pending election on the prohibition
question in Augnst. It will probably
be a great fight.
A well defined report is current to
the effect that a round bale press will
be put np in Americus ere the next
crop is harvested.
The fragrant mullet, rendered more
odoriferous by the genial rays of the
sun, was freely bought by the brother
in black yesterday.
The twenty candidates in Sumter
ran in the rain yesterday. Nothing
short of a Klondike blizzard could
hold them in oheck.
A candidate fell from exhaustion on
Cotton Avenue yesterday. It was
said the platform he was carrying
proved too weighty.
New peas from local gardens are now
in nftrket, and in another week one
can eat strawberries without mort
gaging his property.
The race for the office of tax receiver
is now star shaped, a fifth candidate
entering yesterday. Four of them
will see stars later on.
Amerious hardware men see no good
in the proposed gigantio hard ware com
bine. It will only have the effect of
making prices higher.
DeMolay Oommandery, of Amerious,
is arranging for a speoial sleeper in
whieh the Sir Knights will go to Sa
vannah on May Htb.
Mr. James Riviere, Jr. who was oon-
neoted with the Peoples Bank for aev
oral years, has gone to Savannah to ac-
oept a situation there.
The Seaboard shops hers employ
now a working force of 275 men. Sup
pose Amerious . had other industries
employing snoh foroe?
Candidates in Sumtar are in “blooke
of four” it seems. There ate four oat
for tax receiver, tax oolleetor, treas
urer auditor the legislature.
' The State Mediesl Soolety met lu 8s*
vannah yesterday, iu annual session,
whieh lasts two days. Amerieus is
represented in the assembly. f
A candidate made the rduud of four
teen millponds yesterday, interview
ing eighty-seven fishing voters, and
now declares himself erected.
Messrs. George Thornton, B. L.
Alston, J. L. Horn end S. R. Steph
ens were four of Webster's represen
tative citizens here yesterday.
It is just a month before the grand
oouncil of Red men of Georgia con
venes in Amerious. At Ieast'300 dele
gates will attend the Council.
Quite a large contingent' of Ameri
ous attorneys are in Ellsville this
week attending Sohley court. Even
some of the candidates went over.
It is expected that a start will be
made upon the new First Methodist
Church building shortly. All of the
money required will soon be raised.
It is only two months' bsfore the
elose of the pnblio schools, when the
fair graduate reads her;*‘original" es
say and then goes forth to conquer.
Though not a veteran of the Civil
War, Cot. Tom Lane is going to the
Dallas reunion Saturday, though
promising not to oanvase for votes out
there. •
Just Three Weeks Hence and Issues
Settled.
Three week) from today the voters
of Sumter will determine the result
between the horde of candidates for
county cffioe; the battle will have been
fought; lost by some and won by oth
ers, but ended at least, and a holy
calm will then overspread the political
field.
And it will be a busy three weeks
for the sprinters after office.
They will make the most of the short
time intervening, and the voter thus
far overlooked will be promptly im
portuned. It is not believed, how
ever, that even one has been missed.
In the meantime the candidates for
the county offices are ponring forth
their persuasive elcquenoe.
The list published elsewhere still
shows an unbroken front, with four
candidates for tax collector, four for
treasnrer, five for receiver, one each
for sheriff and clerk of conrt, and two
chasing the office of coroner. It is a
great and good natnred contest.
And three weeks from today the lit
tle drama will have ended.
Good For Rheumatism.
Last fall I was taken with a very
severe attack of muscular rheumatism
which caused me great pain and an
noyance. AQer trying several pre
scriptions and rheumatic cures, I de
elded to use Chamberlain’s Pain Balm
which I had seen advertised in the
South Jerseyman. After two applies
tions of this Bemedy I was much bet.

completely cured.—Sallie Harris,
