FEASTED AND SANG AT SBIf.OH
Children's Bay There an Enjoyable
Occasion-
At Shiloh Cliurcu, eight miles from
Americas, on Saturday, 12ih a delight
fal and instructive programme was
presented by the children of that
church and community
The recitations showed taste in their
selection, and the rendering gave evi
dence of the great conception the little
ones had of their respective pieces.
There was a harmony about the pro
gramme that is seldom evidenced on
each occasions.
Those who arranged it surely had in
mind the happy effect such a pro
gramme would have on the audience.
The choir, composed of a dozen or
more very good voices, rendered fine
music for the occasion.
When the boar of 12 bad arrived
everybody was invited to assemble
around a table laden with all the good
things thatons could wish. While the
programme of singing and recitation
were enjoyed by all, certainly there
was not so much as a dissenting voice
as to the completeness of the pro
gramme for this hoar.
In the afternoon, devotional exer
cises were held in the ehurcb, led by
the pastor.
The attendance on this occasion, wae
nnnsnally large, and everybody en
joyed themselves immensely, And
ere the time for separation arrived, it
was the desire and the wish of all
present that “Shiloh” should do this
way again.

One
L. A. Morgan & Co-, book aud job
printers, ot Americas, have'just de
signed and published a booklet,invalua
ble to farmers during the cotton pick
ing season. It contains, in tabulated
form, the cost of cotton picking iu any
amonnt from ten pounds to 8,030 and
at any price in the schedule paid by
farmers here. A glance at the table of
figures shows the amount in dollars
and cents dae any laborer, thus saving
the making of calculations by the far
mer or overseer. There are 32 pages
in the book for names of laborers, with
the days of the week in which they
worked, all neatly ruled. The book
let is also designed for the use of gin-
ners, having blank pages ruled for
their convenience. It is the handiest
and most valuable book that con'.d be
designed, and Morgan & Oo. have ap
plied for a copyright. This firm is
poblisbing these books by the thons-
and for warehouse firms thronghont
sonthwest Georgia, the warehouses
distributing them free among their

LoDger Terms For County Officers is
Suggested.
While the last legislature turned
down the proposition for a four years
term for county officers, It is eafo to
prodiet that the bill will go through
the coming legislature. From every
part of the state come reports that the
poopleofall stations are in favor of
the change. The reason why they fa
vor it is that it will insure a more effi
cient service npon the part of tbo offi
cers, and save the state from the hurt
ful and expensive biennial elections so
distracting to business. Another bill
will also be introduced in the legiala
tare to elect the governor and other
etato officers every fonr year*, bat
limiting the gubernatorial incumbent
to only one term of serviee.
Rapid Progress of Work at V. C. C.
Co’s Flant.
Splendid progress has been made
out at the site of the new fertilizer
plant, and another week will work even
greater transformation in the appear
ance of that locality. Contractor Wil
liams Is grading the grounds as fast as
hundred laborers and forty mules
can do it, aud will soon havo them iu
readiness for tho carpenters to make
startnpon the main buildings, probat ly
by next week. The office building
has been finished aud Snpt. Pike has
already had a telephone liue to the
city constructed. The grading for the
several railroad tracks is now pro
grossing, and by the latter part of this
week the 9,000 feet of track can be put
down aud connected with the Cen
ral’d main line. Numbers of people
go out daily to witness this work,
which is concluded with more system
aud rapidity than any of like kind ever
performed here.
The erstwhile dull peiiod at this time of the year
no longer lingers around here. We make business
by making prices when otherwise it might be just a
trifle quiet.
Come now and conic often, for there are new at
tractions thrown out almost daily. Extra induce
ments as well as reductions are frequently made, for
if an article is found not to be moving as fast as we
think it should we name further reductions in price
that will carry them. Thousands of yards of desir
able wash goods sold during the past few days.
Black Silks.
Black Taffeta Silks are the most staple f-ilks in our
stock, but we have more of them than we care to have just
now and will name the lowest prices ever named yet in or
der to move a lot of them.

oftbe Oliver—French Oo, is being
pushed towards completion, while
start has been mtde upon the new
store of J. E. Freneh & Oo. This will
be two stories in height and a very
large building. This, with the erec-
tlon of two large steam ginneries, one
by the Atlantic Compress Co. and the
other by W. B, Champion, gives an
aspect of thrift and bnelness to the
little city. Not a few homes have also
been bnilt recently, while others are
contemplated.

pist Swinging.
Several of the Americas parly who

glimpse of a real old Oeorgia lynobiug,
or rather the results thereof, John
Wise, who assaulted a lady near Pem
broke, n sawmill town on thsScsboard,

CHARGED WITH RAISING CHECH.
Negro is Landed in Jail to Stand
Trial.
A smooth bit of check railing, as al
leged, is the cause of the landing
of Eddie Tyson in jail a day or two
ago. The cheok was issued by the
Seaboard Airline, being one of the or
dinary pay checks of the company.
It was for $13 originally, bnt when
presented at a grocery store here in
eettlement for the' month’s supply of
groceries it bad been deftly raised to
$30, the bearer receiving the difference,
come 317, in cash. The check passed
through several hands and finally to
