Savannah. Ga., Dec. 19.—Twenty-
eight girls have gone to work In tho
local factory of the American Cigar
company this morning. They
are under the tutelage of three ex
perts brought here from the north.
The cigars they make at first will
not bo placed on the market, as they
are moie or Ires faulty.
A number of girls will bo notified
to come to work each day until the
entire number who have applied for
places have been given work. It Is
then hoped that many more will ap
ply.
The factory was given a substantial
bonus by citizens, and It Is expected
to employ at least 2.000 operatives. It
Is In the heart of the business section.
