frozen to death is Pennsylvania’s rec
ord for 21 houis, says a dispatch from
Philadelphia to The World.
The victims are:
Mathew Seinnet. 45 years old, of
Sharpshurg, found near his home.
Janies H. Coates, 50 years old, of
Pittsburg, found In the snow.
Phillip Sohn, 50 years old. of Har-
marsvillc, found In the snow.
Richard .McCann. b5 years old, of
Sygan Station.
I-uclus Falter. 44 years old, of Al
lentown. found In lee In Little Ix-hlgh
river. He had lost his way in tho
darkness and fell Into the river.
Jameg H. Hannigan. of York, lost
In the snow.
Thomas Monaghan, 76 years old. of
I-Bnoaster. fell In snow hank and was
too feeble to rise.

Many Water Pipes Were Bursted by
the Freeze.
Birmingham. Dec. 27.—The ther
mometer dropped to 13 degrees here
last night, the coldest weather of ths
winter. Many water pipes were
bursted by the freeze. The cold con
tinue# today, tho mercury rising very
el owl y. At 10 o'clock It registered
30 degrees. The sun Is shining, but
the wind Is stilt very blUng.

Greenville. 8. C., Dec. 27.—It has
been learned here that Art Craig, a
substantial farmer of Pickens county,
wsa found dead near the Keowee riv
er In Ptclcene county several nights
ago. Upon examination the attend
ing physicians said the deceased was
frozen to death.

night was the coldest experienced here
this winter. The minimum tempera
ture was 15 degrees above zero,
trace of snow is reported by the weath

Memphis, Tenn.. Dec. 27.—A further

W. H. Wells la Shot and Killed by

Fort Valley. Oa., Dec. 27.—Aa un
fortunate homicide occurred la tbla
place yesterday afternoon.
W. H. Wells, a young carpenter, was
■hot near the heart and Instantly kill
ed by Will Joiner, a carpenter, who
received a bullet In his right breast,
though the wound la not considered
dangerous.
Tho young men met on the streot.
Welts, It Is said, had been drinking.
A quarrel finally started between them
and both drew their guns and began
firing, with the result as before stated.
Joiner claims tbat he did the killing
In self-defense.
Both tho participants In the unfor-
tunato affair are welt connected.
The shooting created considerable
excitement, and Is greatly deplored. It
was the first tragedy during Christ-
mas.
TRAGEDY IN HART COUNTY.
Earl Sanders Shot to Death by Marlon
Maaaey.
Hartwell. Oa., Dec. 27 —Marlon Maa
aey shot and' kitted Earl P. Sanders
at the home of the latter. In Hart
county, Thursday arternoon In
drunken row.
Massey used a shotgun. The entire
load was emptied In Sanders' face,
and 126 shot were taken from hla
face, neck and shoulders.
Mnseey at once took to flight. Sher
iff Kidd gave pursuit, tracing Massey
with a bloodhound. On tho bank ol
the Savannah river Massey shot 'he
dog and swam the river to the South
Carolina shore.
Kaitnfuiness Caused Her Oeath.
New York. Dec. 27.—Faithfulness to
her fiancee. Professor Peck, a former
Instructor In Lehigh university, who
died a year ago from consumption, has
cost Miss Mabel Mitchell, of Plainfield,
N J her life. When Professor Beck
was taken IB Miss Mitchell, then a
school teacher, nursed him at hla
home In Newlmrg. N. Y.. and after his
death the young woman waa stricken
by Professor Peck’s disease. She re
signed her position a« an Instructor

Bank of Union, Mo., Dyna-
mited by Two Men.
VAULT COMPLETELY WRECKED.
Only Two Men Are Said to Have Been
Engaged In the Daring Work—Kept
up Fusilade of Shots to Terrify Cit
izens.
Union, Mo., Dec. 27.—The Bank of
Union was burglarized between 1 and
2 o’clock tills morning, the vault be
ing blown open wltn nltro-itlycerlne
and $15,000, the entire contents of the
safe, stolen. The robbers were two
in number, and are believed to be pro
fessionals. They escaped.
A little after 1 o'clock an explosion
was heard and several shots were
fired around the public square. Most
of the citizens who heard the nolso
supposed It was caused by some boys
out on a tark celebrating Christmas,
and paid no attention to It.
Oscar Busch, a hardware dealer liv
ing across the street, realized that tho
bank was being robbed-, but when ho
went to the window to took out he
was covered by a revolver. He then
kept quiet. Others In the vicinity ol
the bank also wore kept quiet by a
display of revolvers. About 50 shots
were fired to terrorize venturesome
persons. Notwithstanding contrary
reports. Mr. Busrh says that hut two
men left tho bank after the robbery.
The wreck was complete, the vault
door and the safe being completely de
molished. as was the whole front and
Interior of the bank. By 9 o'clock the
work was finished and the men then
left town by walking to the east.
F. F. Reinhardt, the president of the
bank, was very sick at hla home, and
he was not told of the robbery. A.
W. Hoffman, the cashier, waa called
after It was all over. He estimates
the lose at about $15,000.. The bai
carried $10,000 Insurance against bur-
glary. There Is no clew.

Three Men Instantly Killed and Two
Are Injured.
Lousvtlle, Dec. 27.—Fast passenger
train No. - 101, on tho Illinois Central
for Cincinnati from New Orleans
crashed Into a work train at Caney-
ville, S4 miles from I-oulsvlUe thin
morning. Threo men were Instantly
killed and two Injured. One of tho
engine was demolished and tho
other and three ears wero derailed.
The killed:
Charles Stith, engineer of tho work
train, of Elizabethtown, 1vy.
Thomas Bell, fireman of the work
train, of Louisville.
W. O. Roberts, fireman of tho pas
senger train, of Central City, Ky.
The injured are:
Louis Coffey, of the passenger train,
Louisville, badly bruised and cut.
John Sandett, a passenger, Louis
ville. arms cut aid body bruised.
The train left New Orleans Friday
morning and was due In Louisville at
7:45 o'clock this morning.
At Caneyvllle a light freight engine
attached to several empty gondolas
waa taking water, and the passenger
train crashed Into it, going at full
speed.

15-year-old boy, attached to the Sal
vation Army, was faulty burned last

Carnegie to Visit Tutkegee.
Tuakegee, Alt., Dec. 27— Andrew
Carnegie is to vlelt the Tuekegee Nor
mal and Industrial Institute tome time
during the latter part of February or
first of March to Inspect the new 11-
braby building at the school, for which
ke gave the money some time ago.
Several photographs of this new build
ing have been sent to Mr. Carnegie
and he ha® become very much Inter*
ested In tho building, especially In view
of the fact that tho plana were drawn
by one of the Instructora of the nchool
and waa practically built by the stu
dents of the school.
Froze to Death Near Home.
Duluth. Minn., Dec. 26.—George
Plydell, 55 year® old, with hla arma
full of Christmas presents for friend®
and relatives, fell from exhaustion
within 5 feet of his home and froze to
death. Plydell lived all alone In a
shack near the harbor front, where
he conducted’ a confectionery and cl-
gra store. The thermometer ha® reg
istered 20 degrees below zero for 24
hour*-
