GROCER.
Pittsburg, dan. 31.—C. D. Allison, a
well known electric contractor of this
city, waa called to the front door of
big homo in Sheridan, a suburb, at
1:45 o'clock this morning and shot
down by an unknown person. The
bullet entered Mr. Allison's left side
near the heart slid It Is feared the
wound will prove fatal.
Mr. Alltaeu was awakenod shortly
before 2 o'clock by loud rigging at
the front door. Securing his revol
ver ho descended and opened the
door. No one was there and he step
ped onto the porch and was p/.-rlng
into the darkness when a shot was
fired from the home and Mr. Allison
was shot through the side. He quick
ly raised himself by the porch rail
ing, however, and fired three shots af
ter the assassin. Mr*. Allison rush
ed down and found her husband half
kneeling and half hanging on the
porch. She dragged him Inside and
physician was quickly summoned,
but on account of Mr. Allison's condi
tion no attempt was made to extract
the bullet.
No reason Is known for the attempt
on Mr. Allison’s life, and the identity
of the man who fired the shot is a mys
tery. It Is said that an Infernal ma
chine was sent to Mr. Allison last
Tuesday, but it failed to work when
the box was opened.
This morning It whs said that the
shooting Is the result of political trou-
hie which Mr. Allison has had /a the
borough. Another reason glveh for
the shooting Is that by some It Is
thought that Mr. Allison la connected
with the anti-saloon league, as the
box containing the revolver was di
rected to “C. B. Allison, secretary of
the ntl-aaloon league, Sheridan.”
It was denied that Mr. Alllaon Is in
any way connected with the league.
After an examination of the wound
this morning the physicians stated
that Mr. Allison was not fatally hurt.
The bullet entered the left breast and
without piercing the lung lodged In
tbe right shoulder.
There Is not the slightest clew.
Mr. Allison Is 48 years of age, and
Is manager of tho Sheridan Electric
company.

The reaaon given la that the mili

the court of honor which In circum
stances similar to those of the crown
