Dear Sir:—This is to certify that on Au
gust 1st I went to Verbena, Ala., to hold a
series of meetings. Was at that time, and
had been for six weeks prior, so feeble I was
scarcely able to preach. Mr. F. A. Gulledge,
of Verbena, with whose family 1 was stop
ping, kindly offered me three bottles of
Johnson’s Chill and Fever Tonic, gratis. I
accepted, and began the use of the Tonic at
once. Within three weeks I was was much
better. In three weeks I had taken the
three bottles of Tonic and was fully well.
Took no other medicine then nor since, and
am in better health and heavier than for
the past fifteen years.

New Orleans, Feb. 24.—Ideal weath
er marked the carnival celebration
here today and the scenes on the
streets were unusually animated. All
avenues traversed by the pageant were
densely packed and galleries groaned
beneath the weight of those gathered
to witnesa It. There was the usual
number of promiscuous maskers. Good
order generally prevailed.

With a Freight—Thirty Cars Were
Demeliehed.
.-Altoona, Pa.. Feb. 25.—One man was
killed, one'fatally injured and four
other* more or lees seriously hurt In
* freight wreck on the Pennsylvania
railroad at Kitannlog Point, 7 miles
wcit ot here, today. The dead are:
J. H. Cox, aged 32 years, a flagman.
R. B. Cooney, 26 years, fatally In
jured.

The wreck was caused by a freight
train of SB loaded coke and coal cars
running wild down tho eastern slope
of fho Allegheny mountain and cot
tiding with another freight, which was
standing still on the tamo track.
Thirty cars were demolished, and
traffic for several hours was delayed.

In South America.
Berkeley. Cal.. Feb. 25.—Tho D. O.
Mills astronomical expedition to tho
southern hemisphere, after two years
of preparatory work, will sail from Baa
Francisco for Chile next Saturday. The
observations will be conducted by Uni
versity of California asttonomera,
headed by William H. Wright, of the
Lick observatory.

with a speed of 1214 miles per second.
This conclusion, however, cannot bo
considered conclusive, for the stars of
the southern hemisphere are not pre
sented Id the calculations and for tho
purpose of observation of them tha
