L Record. I nmn mn33ln i D new tk.
Nearly a month ago the Times Re
corder stated that the American Dis
trict Telegraph Co. wonld, at an early
date, iastall a branch of its service
here aDd thereby give Americus a con
venience enjoyed by the larger cities
of the state where tbe “A. D. T.” is
regarded as a necessity. The servioe
is now installed here and is ready for
business.
And that it will be accorded a liberal
patronage is assured when tbe advan
tage is fully understood.
The headquarters of the A. D. T. is
at the Western Union Telegraph office
here, and a telephone message sent
there will bring a messenger boy to
your door in the twinkling of an eye,
Mr. B- F. DilloD, of Jacksonville,
Fla. who has installed tbe new servioe
here, was in the city yesterday looking
after tbe perfection of all details. He
is satisfied that tbe messenger service
wilt be appreciated, and promises, m
addition thereto, at an early date,
more complete Bjetem, inoluding fire
alarm, bnrglar and police calls.
Miles of wire for tbe installation of
this system has been shipped to Ameri
one and, it is hoped, will be in position
within a month. Bnt the .messenger
service is on already.
Call boxes will be placed in business
houses, and by pressing a lever ames
senger boy will bo at your elbow in a
minute, Notes, letters, telegrams,
small packages—anything that a boy
can handle on a bioyole—will be car
ried for ten cents to any part of the
city. A return oall, with answer, will
coBt half this amonnt.
Telegrams are, of course, called for
and delivered free of oharge, as Dow.
A nnmber of swift wheelmen will be
employed by the A. D. T. Co. nnd this
servioe will be as coavenient as the
telephone and others.
If Farmers Will Combine |For County
ExhibiL
Since it was first announced, teu
days ago, that Macon wonld have the
State Fair this year the Times Record
er has urged upon our farmers tbe im
portance of making a county exhibit.
This can be done, and Sumter will
stand an excellent chanoe of winning
one of tbe best prizes. The State
Agricultural] Sooiety Fair Committee
and the Macon Fair Association has
just adopted the following general
preminm list, withjother special prizes
to]be.cfiered later: Best county’ agri
cultural exhibit $1500; next best 81,200;
third best $900; next five best counties,
each $200; next five best counties,
each 8100. Best individual agricul
tural exhibit, 8300; second best iadi
vidnal exhibit, 8150; third best indi
vidual exhibit, $100; best exhibit from
one-horse farm, 8100; next best 8-50.
Aggregate for educational exhibit,
$500. The Macon Fair Association
will soon publish the premium list.
few days, will be of greatest advantage.
Wires will conneot yonr residence with
fire department headquarters, and in
the event of a blaze in yonr dwelling
an automatic alarm ie sounded nud tho
fire tracks are at yonr door in less time
than it wonld take you to ring up
‘‘central.”
Americus is the smallest city in the
South having the Amerioan Distriot
Telegraph Co’s, service, and is to be
congratulated tboreupon.
A Night Alarm.
Worse than an alarm of fire at night
is the brainy oough of croup, whioh
sounds like the children’s doath knell
and It means death unless something is
done quickly. Foley’s Honey and Tar
never fails to give instant relief and
quickly cures the worst forms of oroup.
Mrs. P. L. Cordler, of Mannlngton, Ky.,
writes: "My three year old girl had a
severe case of oroup; the doctor said she
could not live. I got a bottle of Foley’s
Honey and Tar, the first dose gave qulok
relief and saved her life." Refuse sub-
stltutes.
INSPECTOR CAME TO AMERICUS
For tho Purpose of Looking Into Car
gill's Case.
Postoffico Inspector Oonant was in
Ameneus yesterday, having been toot
here to investigate tbe Cargill ease. In
Deoember last Mr. Thomas Cargill,
then delivery olerk at the poetoffioa
here, was suspended by Postmaster
Mitohell, his services, it is said, not
being satisfactory. Mr. Cargill ob
jected to being dropped in this man
ner, the position being an easy one and
the pay 8500 per year, but moreover, he
stood upon his rights to the plaoo in
the fact that he bad passed thenqnir-
ed examination and oontended that be
discharged his duties satisfactorily. Io
the meantime be has taken np tbe met
ier with the postoffice department, and
Inspector Conant is here to sift out the
matter.
