Putting it Strong,
And why not? When the merchandise and prices will
: j back up the statements made concerning them, we have
every incentive to “Put it Strong.” There is nothing
wrong In emphasizing excellence when the emphasis is with
in the bounds of truth, when tacts are given withoat misrep
resentation. Our adj” state facts. Just facts. Some
thing well worth the remembering,

New Orleans. March 31.—More men
and more money !i the cry that comes
from the crevasse at Hymella today.
The forces employed there who have
b8en working day and night to press
forward the work have been exhaust
ed and fresh hands are required. The
Texas and Pacific has put on dally
trains to carry laborers to the scene,
Eight hundred feet of cribbing at one
end. and 200 feet at the other were
holding firmly at daylight, and the
prospect of closing the break has been
brightened considerably. The river
here today registered 20.2 feet, a fall
of .1 foot in the past 24 hours.
Colonel Ernst, head of the river coin
mission, is quoted as expressing the
belief that the river here has about
reached its maximum,-if the Hymeria
break continues to run.
The report of the Ponchartrain dis
trict today is that the line of levees is
holding, and that all observable weak
spots have been strengthened-. Water
from Hymelia is beginning to fill up
the watre courses on tho west hank
of the river, and people who are living
on lowlands are beginning to move to
the higher villages with their goods
and 1 chattels.

San Antonio, Tex., March 27.—Sun

at LaCosta, 18 miles Iwest of here, at
9:55 o’clock last night Three passen
gers were killed and nine Injured. Tbe
bodies of the dead were burned. The
dead:
Gaudelope Cantee, of Monterey, Mex.
lco.
Antonio A. ltizpo, Sabinas, Mexico.
'Manuel Trevino Santo, Sabinas, Mex
ico.
The Injured are:
‘Nabor Flores, Monterey, Mexico,
Chest crushed.
P, AV. Morrow, traveling passenger
agent of the Louisville and Nashville
railroad, of San Antonio, two ribs
broken.
Miss J. Foster, of Houston, Tex., hip

Antonio, arm broken, face bruised.
Miss A. Kistler, of Great Bend, Pa.,

John Quinn, engineer, bruised and
crushed:.
The three dead Mexicans were rela
tives of General Geronimo Tevino, of
Monterey, Mexico, who was on his
way to San Antonio, accompanied by
his wife and son. The Trevinos are
nbt Injured.
The dead men were in a compart
ment of tbe private car of General
Trevino. Th® Pullman car In the
rear telescoped the private car, crush
ing them to death. Their bodies were
not recovered until they had been
burned to a crisp In the fire, which
destroyed the entire train-, including
the engine. The fire originated 1 from
the oil in the tender.
The trains were eastbound. The
first, the Eagle Pass train, was stand
ing on the main line at I.aCoste. The
cause of the stop at I-aCoste, which is
only a small place, is not known. The
limited, from El Paso, was traveling
at a good rate of speed when it crash-
efi into the rear of the Eagle Pass
train.
The engine of the limited crashed
through a caboose which was hitched
to the rear ot the Eagle Pass train
and into the rear sleeping car. This
car in turn telescoped into the Tre
vino private coach, killing the Mexi
cans.
The engine of the limited was de
stroyed. Most of the injured were
on the limited 1 and their hurts are due
to the shock, being thrown from their
seats.

Antonio.
