HAS CONFIDENCE IN AMERICUS.
Capitalist Says Ho Will Invest His
Monoy Hero.
Americas is attracting attention
abroad as well as among her own citi
zens a* a place for profitable invest
ment of capital, and not a tew eyes are
forensed upon the commercial metropo-
Hi of southern Georgia. A gentleman
from Kentucky, here yesterday, quot
ed a wealthy eilizen of Lonisville,
familiar with the situation here, as
saying that be contemplated building
an eleetno street railway here in the
near Intnre if the outlook oontinned
favorable. And it will. Americas peo
ple—that is, the live, pushing element
here, have an abiding faith in tho eity’a
future, and this faith will enednrage
others with money to invest to come
here. Americas is decidedly upon the
np pride and her progress cannot be
stayed. The bntldtng of a streot rail
way, as suggested, would give the city
an impetus that no other enterprise
could or would.
THE FINEST CROPS IN SUMTER.
Both Corn and Cotton are Rank in
Growth.
As noted in the Timet-Reoorder al
ready, the recent line tains have given
a wonderful impetus (u the growing
orops and the proapeot is line indeed.
Mr. U. S Lockett and Jadge FiUbnry
returned to the city yesterday from a
visit to the big ten thousand acre Hng-
nenia plantation, of which Mr. W. T,
L jckutt ii manager, and report usgni-
fioeot crops of corn and cotton npon
this and neigbooriag plantation*.
Cotton 'in many fields they saw is
breast high and growing vigorously.
Tho propeet for a good corn crop, too,
is the best in a long time at this season.
In nearly every portion of Snmter the
crops are good this year, and tbera will
be peace and plenty, bog and hominy
and sugar in the gonrd next fall.

It was jnst one month ego yesterday
that Deputy Sheriff A. D. Gatswocd
returned to Ameriens from Cilifornia
with J. T. Dent as a prisoner, held
upon two charges of forgery. He wee
piaeed in jail here, where be has since

other months than tbia first one unless

Two weeks ego * brother of the prison,
