THE AMERICUS WEEKLY TIMES-RECCRDER, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1905.
IT LOOKED LITTLE IN BAILEY.
Senator Bailer, of Texas, ia one of
Ilia ablest ef the younger Senators, bnt
he sometimes talks and aotslike a very
small man. Witness bis published let*
ter withdrawing bis name from a com
mittee to solioit subscriptions for the
University if Virginia beoause Dr. Al
derman, the President of the institu
tion, an a recent address expressed the
opinion that tbe Sontb bad no trained
men in public life. It was a rather
tactless remark on tbe part of Dr. AI
derman, bnt it did not warrant petty
action and revengeful remarks. Bailey
shows that be felt tbe sting of the crit
icism. A really big man or even a man
of good ommon sense would have ta
ken no notioe of it Imagine any of
tbe really great statermin of tbe South
of earlier days showing suoh petty rc
sentment as Mr. Bailey bas shown,
His remark that If the South is weaker
in statesmanship than it was, tbe Non b
is also, is true, but this does not afTcot
Dr. Alderman’s statement if be spoke
the tenth.

each player to win tbe trick. Tbe win

Even then tbe winner is not sure of
his holdings, for if a Boom strikes the
market he loses all be has won on
Sboris, while a Slump following takes
all that be bas won on Longs and tbe
