tomorrow to the Confederate dead, the
heroes living and the sacred cause for
which they vainly struggled: and a
whole city will thus unite in this obser
vance of the occasion, as has been done
for many long years.
In the afternoon from 3 to .*> o’clock
business in the city will be entirely
anspended that ull may attend the ex
orcise* at the cemetery.
There, In beautiful Oakgrovd, six
hundred heroes of the lest Cause are
sleeping, and tomorrow the green
mounds above them will be coverod
with a profusion of Dowers, while in
flights of oratory the story of their
heroic straggle will again be told.
Citliens, veterans, the military and
school children will thus participate.
The public schools, as usual, will be
given the holiday, and Too school child
ren, bearing garlands, will take part In
the exercises.
The procession out to the cemetery
will torm at the public library,moving
promptly at 3:30 o’clock. The Memor-
al Society requests citizens who w ill

speaker and others.
Despite the late spring and conseq went
scarcity of flowers at this season, the

laws, and it is only lawful for them to
be taken from the water by hook and

vices are prohibited until after July 1.

Angeles Shrine Parade.
Mr. K. A. Cutis, Imperial potentate
of Alee Temple of the Mystic Shrine,
oi which a largunuiuber of Americus
Masons ars members, has been se
lected ns one of the division comman-
ders of the parade or the shriners,
which take place d tiring the annual
convention In Los Angeles, Cal., du-
ring the week or May fifth to eleventh.
Tho honor Is a most unusual one and
is greatly appreciated by Mr. Cutta
and the members or the Alee Temple.
The Shriners will leave Savannah
in a special steeper oyer the Central of
Georgia railway on Sunday night.
They will go to Atlanta, whore two
other ears of shriners will await them,
and the three ears being thrown into a
train with a diner and two baggage
cars, will take up its long journey
ncross the continent.
None of the Americus Masons are
taking the trip this year.

JOHN L. PENNINGTON DIED MONDAY
Esteemed and Valued Gitizen Passes
Away.
Mr. John I.. Bennington passed
way Monday morning at his home in
the country north of Americus, the
end coming after a brief illness with
pneumonia. Mr. Bennington was one
of Sumter county's most estimable
citizen* and a man of highest integrity,
ne was about 5k years of age, and
leaves a large family.
