Another murder among; negroes was
reported from the Fifteenth district
yesterday morning in the arrest and
jailing of Arthur Towns, who is charg
ed with the murder of Ed Lamar. The
homicide occured Sunday, and seems
entirly unprovoked.
The coroner’s jury after investigation
fixed the crime upon Towns.
lie was arrested and brought to
Americus, tho, having little to say of
the crime. Towns is a “town nigger”
as termed there, and bears an un
savory record among the police officers
here. #
Recently he has been at work on the
Iluguenln plantation. Lamar worked
on the Clay plantation, and bears an
excellent reputation.
It seems, from reports current, that
Lamar, negro like, had a pistol stuck in
his pocket Sunday while walking
about the village. Towns took Lamar'
pistol from bis pocket and ran off,
Lamar following and begging him
give up the woapon.
This was the last seen of him until
his body was found with two holes
bored in the top end of .it Towns was
arrested, charged with the crime.

HANDSOME DONATION TO HOSPITAL
Five Hundred Dollars Given By County
Board. ^
Five hundred dollars was the hand
some cash contribution made the
Americus Hospital yesterday by the
county commissioners, this sum equal
ling that given recently by the city
council for the support of this splendid
county institution.
And the money goes for a most
worthy cause indeed.
The hospital is an institution in
which every man, woman and child in
the county is Interested, and all are
gratified at the great success that has
been attained there already.
Yesterday Doctors Cato, Prather and
Field, Mr. Arthur Rylander, president
of the association, and a committee
from the Ladies Auxiliary went before
jhe commissioners, asking for aid to
the amount of (500. Their request was
very readily complied with.
The commissioners fhlly appreciate
the Inestimable value of such an insti
tution as that established here, and
which is doing such a great work in
the alleviation of suffering, illness and
disease, and cheorfully do they contrib
ute tp its maintainance.
The |500 given by the commissioners,
added to a like amount from the city,
already given, will place the hospital
upon a much firmer basis.

In Connection With the Third District Agricultura
w College.
The Third District Agricultural Col
lege in Americus, as weU as those in
the other Georgia districts, may have
a model farm in connection therewith.
This morning Gov. Terrellwill confer
in Washington with officers of the
United States Department of Agrlcul.
tare and friends of agricultural educa
tion with regard to inducing the de
partment to establish model farms at
each of the agricultural schools in the
Georgia Congressional districts, Just
the same as has been done by that de
partment in Texas, Louisana and
Mississippi.
Gov. Terrell expresses the hope that
something on this line can be arrang
ed, as this would take the place of the
proposed sub-experiment stations
which Congress foiled to provide for at
its last session. ‘
These model forms can be easily es
tablished at each of the agricultural

schools without the necessity of secur
ing a congressional appropriation, be
cause the United States Department of
Agriculture has at its command a fund
for this particular purpose.
It is said the cost of such a model
farm in connection with these schools
will be approximately 91,000 a year
each.
In this connection it may be stated
that Gov. Terrell has called a meeting
of the curriculum committee appointed
by the trustees of the State University
to devise a uniform course of study for
the new district agricultural schools,
to be held in Atlanta May 22 and 23.
The presidents and superintendents of
the various schools will meet with the
committee, and it is believed harmoni*
