Earnest Guerry, a fleetfooted Sumter
county convict. Was sent back to the
chaingang yesterday with two ad
ditional years tacked on to his original
sentence, one for escaping and the
other for robbing the “boss man”
while the latter sweetly slumbered.
Guerry escaped several months ago
while the gang was stationed down
ifrtbe Fifteenth district.
At the time he had only six months
more to serve, but six months in the
Sumter county cbalngang probably
seemed like an eternity to Guerry, as
to others doing time there.
Guerry added insult to injury on the
night of his departure ;by entering the
tent of the slumbering gilard and,
divesting himself of convict stripes put
on the garb of the “boss man,” includ
ing his low neck shoes, bilod shirt and
other articles of raiment.
Negro like, Guery did not go far, and
was located in Cordele.
He was brought over yesterday, and
the two years added to his sentence by
Judge Crisp will ensure some good
work from Guerry if he can hold his
job for that time.
