One of the prettiest June weddings,
although of a quiet tenor, only the
relatives and a few intimate friends
being present, was that of Miss Leila
Scarborough and Mr. Harry Hightower
Jarrard, which occurred Wednesday
evening, at eight thirty at the home of
the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
N. Scarbrough, on Church street
The ceremony was impressively per
formed by Rev. J. P. Wardlaw, in the
hall, the bride,and groom standing
directly under an artistic arch, grace
fully festooned in smilax and pink,
hydrangeas, suspended from the cenj
ter of which was an enormous bell,
made of white brides roses ard maiden
hair fern.
The color scheme throughout the
house was effectively adhered to in pink
and white, a profusion of pink sweet
peas being used, combined with grace
ful ferns and stately palms.
Thelbride wore a beautiful creation
of white net, made empire-princess,
built over white tafetta, and fashioned
with baby Irish lace.
A beautiful collection of gifts, con
slstlngof bric-a-brac, china and cut
glass were received. Mr. and Mrs,
Jarrard left at ten twenty for an ex
tended visit to North Carolina, after
which they will be at home in At
lanta.
Assisting in serving were Misses
Marie Jossey, Kate Felder, Sarah
Burkhalter and Emma Eldridge.

Surrounded by an unusually large
circle of friends and relatives, the
marriage of Miss Kate Horne and Mr.
James iDavis Girtman took place
Wednesday evening at the home of the
bride’s mother, Mrs. G. W. Horne, on
Spring street.
The marriage rites were read by
Rev. J. F. Wardlaw before an im
provised altar of ferns and palms,
lighted by many shaded tapers.
Miss Margaret Buchanan sang in her
usual attractive manner ’’Forget-Mo.

The bride wore a becoming gown of
white chifTon, Her veil was held in

The honor students of the graduating
class of the Furiow High School were
announced yesterday.
They are:
Miss Sasic Floyd Fort, daughter
the late Judge Allen Fort, who made an
average of 96. 8, and Miss Mary Hoop,
er, daughter of Hon. Frank Hooper,
who made an average of 96.1.
Miss Fort will be the valedictorian
of the class of 1907, while Miss Hooper
will deliver the salutatory.
These two young ladies have been
among the brightest pupils in the
school from their entrance,and by their
earnest intelligent application to tbeir
studies have won the esteem and com'
mendation of all of their teachers.
It is understood that in the fall both
of them will enter college, probably
Lucy Cobb, and there continue their
studies.
The examination in the schools will
close cn Tuesday. The examination of
the papers and preparation of averages,
honor, rolls, and' promotion lists will
then be pushed rapidly.
The Times-Recorder this year will
publish the qompletellst of all children
receiving certificates of merit.

At 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon the
grand Jury serving st this term of the
court handed in its general present'
ments and adjourned for the term,
with the thanks of Judge Z. A. Little
john for the very thorough and effici
ent manner in which the onerous du
ties imposed had been discharged.
Owing to the lateness of hour the pre
sentments were not read in open court
as is the custom, the Judge permitting
the Jury to waive this formality. The
presentments will be published in toll
tomorrow and will be read with inter
est, as many recommendations of im
portance are contained therein. The
grand Jury went very thoroughly into
an investigation of the convict matter
and others as well.
