ST. LOUIS, MO., Sept 28. (Spec
ial)—Mrs. Lina Brandenburger,
nearly three score years of age and a
grandmother, Is among the entries
received by the Missouri Athletic
club for Its ten miles swimming race
to be held In the Mississippi next
Wednesday, on the occasion of Pres
ident Roosevelt's visit.
She Is 57, and the mother of a
prominent young physician of St.
Louis. Despite her age and sex, her
muscular development is wonderful
and It is possible that she will give
some of the young athletes of the
club a hard tussle for the first hon
ors In the swim. )
Five years ago Mrs. Brandenburg
was almost an invalid, and took up
swimming to benefit her health, on
the advice of her son. Now she is
able to swim for hours at a stretch,
without becoming tired or exhausted,
and believes that she can finish -the
ten mile course without any trouble.
Mrs. Brandenburg declares that since
she took up swimming she has enjoy
ed the best of health and feels more
like a girl of 20 than an old woman
of 57.
Mr. Troy Holder, one of the repres
entatlve citizens of Stewart county
and large planter, was among the
visitors in Amerlcus yesterday. Speak
ing of crop conditions in his prosper-
out county, Mr. Holder said that not
a few farmers were turning attention
to long staple cotton. He has plant
ed It for several years, and so well
pleased Is he with results that the en
tire cotton crop on hts plantation
this year Is long staple varieties, and
the crop Is a good one too. Mr. Hold
er jselts his long staple cotton for
fifty per cent, greater price than
the short staple brings, and as the
yield Is as much per acre the wisdom
of his plan of planting Is quite appar<
ent. Today short staple cotton

A few years ago, when a sufferer
from indigestion went to a stomach
specialist, the result was a rigid diet
list that almost meant starvation.
But the first thing to do In the case
of indigestion or stomach weakness Is
to strengthen the musuclar walls of
the' stomach and intestines, so that
they will care for the food that is
eaten.! In no nother way can this be
done as well as by taking Ml-o-na
tablets before each meal.
This restores strength to the stom

by careful cultivation. In June last
he harvested a crop of five hundred
bushels oats from bis four acre patch,
and nfterwards sowed it broadcast

St. Michael’s, which Is located

In 1807, to meet an emergency. Per

down town district und the evolution
of the scare resulted In the building
of a house of worship In the Immed
iate neighborhood of the homes In
the Bloomlngdale district.
Under the floor of the present
church are burled members of some
of the oldest and best known families
of the New York of the early nine-
teenth century. Much of the
church's distinction Is due to the re
markable personalities of two of Its
rectors, the Rev. Thomas H. Peters
and his son, the Rev. Dr. John. P.
Peters,,, the present rector.
At a time when there was no other

If there were any sick, St. Michael's
must care for them. The dead were
buried at the expense of the congre
gation whenever the family of the de
ceased was too poor to meet the ex
pense. No distinction was made as
to creed, and Catholics and Metbo-
odlsts were often seen kneeling side
by side at St. Michael's alter rail. In
pursuance of the charitable policy
of the rector, the “Sheltering Arms”
was founded by the parish, and its
Industrial home has become famous
throughout the country.
