MRS. CASSIE CHADWICK
DIES IN PRISON
STEAMSHIP PROUDLY
SWEEPS INTO PORT
Believed Ready to Tell Son
About Treasure Trove
COLUMBUS, O. Oct 11. (Special)
—Mrs. Cassie Chadwick died last
night in the woman's ward of the
Ohio penitentiary. Her only attend'
ants were the hospital physician and
the nurses. Her son, Emil Hoover,
was on his way to her side at the
time. Her death was due to neusras-
thenia, superinduced by remorse and
the disgrace of her sentence.
It is the belief of the prison offici
als that she was ready to confess to
her son the hiding place of the large
sums which she is believed to have
"salted away” in connection with her
financial operations had be arrived in
time. Her swindling schemes netted
her around a million dollars, and
while much of this was spent, there
is yet a considerable sum unaccount
ed for. The secret of its hiding place
may never be discovered.
Mrs. Chadwick was a native of Can
ada. Twenty years ago she was
convicted at Toledo, 0„ of fogeryand
given a sentence of nine years. After
serving a part of this term, she was
released and soon married a man
named Hoover. Her second husband
was Dr. LeRoy Chadwick, of Cleve
land, O., a physician of prominence.
In the latter part of 1902, or early
in 1903, Mrs. Chadwick, in the pres
ence of her husband, gave ta Ira
Reynolds, the cashier of the Wade
Park Bank of Cleveland, a box con
taining notes signed with the name
of Andrew Carnegie. Those forged
notes are alleged to have amounted
to $7,500,000. Reynolds gave a receipt
for the papers, which described the
notes and the signatures upon them.
Mrs. Chadwick left with Reynolds,
as an explanation of the notes, the
statement that she was a natural
daughter of Cargenie.
With the receipt of Reynolds in her
possession, Mrs. Chadwick went to
different banks and many capitalists
making loans, and paying, not only
high interest to the banks, but heavy
bonuses to bank officials who loaned
her the money.
Mrs. Chadwick was brought to trial
March 6, 1905, and after a hearing
which lasted two weeks, was found
guilty of conspiracy to defraud a na
tional bank, and was sentenced to 10
years in the penitentiary. Her health
which wag not good at the time of
the trial, failed steadily after its con
elusion.

S Q Q FORTY YEARS
• OF CURES
Long experience and thorough testing have proven S. S. S to be the
King of blood purifiers and the greatest of all tonics. For nearly half «
century S. S. S. has been used in the treatment of blood and akin diseases
, j “• in uluuu aua skin diseases
of every character, and so satisfactory have been the results that it is hoot
the best known and most widely used blood medicine on the market S S S
attracted attention as soon as it was placed on the market bv curing
promptly those diseases for which it was recommended, and we have £
jealously guarded its first good repntation, by keeping it np to its standard
in manufacture, that it now has the unequalled and pleasing record
**Forty Year» Of Cur on- " For Rheumatism, Catarrh, Scrofula
Sores and Ulcers, Malaria, Skin Diseases, Contagious Blood Poison and all
other diseases due to an impure or poisoned condition of the blood there ia
nothing that equals S. S. S. It counteracts and removes the gams and
poisons, cleanses the system of all unhealthy matter, cures the trouble oer
manently, and restores strong, robust health. Where the blood ia weak or
anaemic and unable to nourish the system as it should, S. S. S. supplies it
with the needed properties, and being a bracing, invigorating tonic ft builds
np the entire system. It goes to the very bottom of all blood disorders and
in this way reaches deep-seated and inherited cases on which the ordinary
sarsapanllas and tonics have little or no effect. Not only ii S S S
certain in its results, but it is an absolutely safe medicine. It eniovs
the distinction of being the only blood medicine on the market that is guar
