THAW CASE MAY
BE TRANSFERRED
Both Jerome and Defend
ants Counsel Confident.
PISTOL CARRYING GOT
KNOCKOUT BLOW
NEW YORK, Nov. 23.—(Special)—
Although the date set for the begin
nlug of the second Thaw trial Is now
but a little more than a week dis
taut, it Is considered Improbable that
the famous murder case will again be
aired In this county. It is more
than likely that Thaw's counsel will
next week make an application for a
change of venue on the grounds of
prejudice and the Impossibility of se
curing a qualified jury for many
weeks. It Is thought tnat the wide
spread attention attracted to the first
trial and the full publication of the
testimony in the newspapers has
made every intelligent person familiar
with the case.
Jerome Anxious to Convlet
District Attorney Jerome, however
will make a determined opposition to
any such application. Mr. Jerome has
set his heart upon securing the con
viction of Thaw, arid will leave no le
gal stone unturned in his efforts to
accomplish that end. It Is an open
secret, too, that the district attorney
is much more confident of success
than he was at the first trial. Much
new and important evidence is said to
be In possession of the district
torney's ofllce, and the defense will
likely be treated to several surprises
of considerable magnitude that may
nullify the plans of Thaw's attor
neys.
But If Mr. Jerome is confident of
securing a conviction, Harry Thaw
Is none the less confident of acquittal.
Already he and his devoted wife are
making plans for the future, when
the prisoner, for the last time, shall
cross the “bridge of 3lghs" to liber
ty.
Thaws Plan Trip Abroad
Unless she Is a sublime actress,
hiding her fears behind a mask of
joy, Mrs. Evelyn Thaw also shares
this faith. Within the last few weeks
she has made many trips to her mod
iste preparing a costume to be worn
when she and her husband leave
their projected long trip abroad. Their
plans contemplate sailing for Eu
rope Immediately after the expected
verdict of acquittal has been render
ed. It will be their second honey
moon, and both aro looking forward
to It as a period of supreme Joy, In
which they will be with each other
and away from malicious enemies and
too officious friends.

Dodson’s Pharmacy Invite all who
suffer from any form of catarrhal
trouble to get a Hyomet outfit from
them with their absolute guarantee
that if it does not give perfect satis
faction, the money will be refunded
upon request.
There Is no other treatment for
catarrh that In any way resembles
Hyomei, none that gives such quick
curative results and lasting satisfac
tion, no medicine that can take its
place, none that can be sold on a
guarantee like this, to refund the
money unless it cures.
Catarrh is a germ disease and can
be cured only by breathing Hyomei,
so that the most remote air cells In
the nose, throat and lungs are reach
ed by Its antiseptic healing powers.
In this way all catarrhal germs are
killed, the irritated mucous membrane
Is healed and catarrh is driven from
the system.
This wonderful medicated air treat
ment does not drug and derange the
stomach, but Is breathed through a
little pocket Inhaler that goes with
every dollar outfit.
The unusual way in which Dodson's
Pharmacy sell Hyomei attests their
confidence In the remedy. 2813-5
Alabama’s Drastic Statute
on Subject.
MONTGOMERY, ALA., Nov. 23.—
(Special)—The John anti-pistol bill,
the most far-reaching piece of legisla
tion ever directed at the pistol toting
habit In Alabama, was passed yes
terday afternoon In the Senate by an
overwhelming vote and will become
a law with the approval of the Gov
ernor.
Under the operation of the bill, the
gunsmith’s window, with Its pistols,
dirks and knives, will become a thing
of the past. The bill not only makes
the carrying of a pistol unlawful, but
it makes It against the law to even
sell a pistol with a barrel less than
twenty-four Inches long.
The Black Belt Senators as a rule
supported the bill gladly. It will
preevnt the carrying of a pistol, either
by a white man or by a negro. The
pistol evil In the Black Belt has not
grown solely out of the concealed
weapon.
The weapons that have been car
ried openly have In late years caused
as much bloodshed as those that have
been secretly carried. The complaint
In the Black Belt In recent years has
been that every negro has his shiny
pistol which he carries about openly
as he goes about, and so carrying it
lie violates no law.
Under the new law be is not only
forbidden from carrying a pistol In
that way, but he Is forbidden from
buying it. Moreover, the white mer
chant is forbidden from selling It to
him.
JOYNERS * JOYNER’S
Sweeping Prohibition
The bill bears particularly upon
the sale or carrying of a pistol, but
it deals also with the sale or carry
ing of other deadly weapons.
The title of the bill Is:
“To prohibit the sale or barter, or
having In possession of small dead
ly weapons, such as small pistols,
bowle knives, dirks, brass knucks,
and slung shots.”
The point was made In the dis
cussion that Alabama was looking to
the Legislature and hoping for some
thing that would reduce bloodshed In
the stat.e. So the John bill, which
held out the hope, encountered but
slight opposition In the Senate.
Discussion of Dill
MR. WILLETT HAS SLIGHT
STROKE OF PARALYSIS
Arm Affected By Severe
Stroke.
Mr. A. A. Willett is ill at his home
here os the result of a slight stroke
of paralysis received a day or two
since. His right arm Is rendered use
less for the time, while his right
limb Is likewise affected. Mr. Willett
is one of Sumter’s oldest citizens, and
among the most esteemed as well, and
despite his ninety or more years
friends hope for his rapid recovery.
As soon as the bill came up Sena
tor Merritt took the floor In Us sup
port. It was In his opinion a merit
orious measure.
The people of Alabama, he said,
were looking to the Legislature and
praying for relief from the pistol to-
ter. It was expected of the Legisla
ture that It would provide some legis
lation on that great subject. He be
lieved firmly that the bill would pre
vent the carrying of concealed wea
pons, and if It did that the Senate
of Alabama should certainly pass It.
The pistol bill was not exactly what
he wanted, but Senator Hinson said
he would take It as being the best
he could get. It would do at least
one thing—prevent negroes from go
ing about the country and flaunting
dangerous pistols without violating
the law.
The Black Belt, he said, was not
suffering so much from concealed pis
tols as it was the pistols which
were not concealed. The negro had
learned that he was violating the law
If he concealed his pistol, so he was
accustomed to strap It on the outside
and thus armed go out and look for
his enemy.
Senator Hanner spoke against the
measure. Only three votes were cast
against the bill on its final passage.
AS OTHERS THIXK
Everyone In Americas Has a Right to
His Own Opinion.
While everyone has a right to his
own opinion, yet It Is wise to always
consider what others think and profit
by their experience.
Nothing makes life so miserable, or
interferes so widely with the useful
ness of the average American, as in
digestion. and It Is well for us to give
fair consideration to what others think
about this remarkable affliction.
Dodson's Pharmacy are positive
that In Mi-o-na stomach tablets they
have an absolute cure for Indigestion
and the many disagreeable symptoms
that follow this disease, such as dis
tress after eating, coated tongue, bad
taste In the mouth, dizziness, flatu
lence, nervousness and debility.
Their action in selling Ml-o-na on
a guarantee to refund the money un
less It cures, shows plainly their be
lief In the value of this remedy. They
take all the risk, and there will be no
charge whatever for Mi-o-na unless
you are satisfied that It has relieved
you of Indigestion. 27-29-4.
