REMOVE THE CAUSE
How lo Remedy Much of the Suffer
ing in Amerlcus.
The only way to cure the attacks
of indigestion that are so common In
Amerlcus Is by using Ml-o-na stomach
tablets. They remove the cause of
indigestion, strengthen the muscles
of the stomach and bowels, and res
tore the whole digestive system to
•health and strength.
When the stomach Is weak there
Is indigestion, flatulence, dizziness,
headache, sleeplessness and many
other disagreeable symptoms. The
•only remedy, that can be relied upon
absolutely to cure this condition Is
Ml-o-na, for It removes the cause and
restores health so that all food Is
easily digested without pain or suffer
ing.
Dodson’s Pharmacy sell Mt-o-na
under an absolute guarantee to refund
the money unless It cures. Try a 60-
ccnt box and see how much real good
it does In strengthening the diges
tion. 1-3-8.
DEATH Of DR. BARNUM
DEPLORED BY MANY
Passed Away Friday Even
ing 3rd, Inst.
The announcement in Amerlcus yes
terday of the death of Dr. R. "E. L.
Barnum was received with sorrow
among the many friends here of that
estimable gentleman and popular
physician of Richland, where he was
widely known. The end came on
Friday evening, following an attack
of meningetis of two weeks dura
tion. Dr. Barnum was one of the
most prominent residents of Stewart
county and his death is a great loss
to the community in which he had
so long resided. He is survived by
his wife and five small children.

A WALKOUT Of FIREMEN
OTHER MEN IN PUCES
Unusual Strike in Americus
Results.
TATE OF SEABOARD IS
RESULT OF WAR WA6ED
Warfield and Williams in
Control.
As expected, receivers have been
Appointed for the Sea board Air
Line Railway, and the three thousand
miles of that splendid property Is
now In the courts, largely as the
result of merciless warfare made
upon It by legislation inimical to cor
porations in general and railway In
terests in particular.
It Is the first signal victory (7) for
the ''reformers.”
A well known railroad man in Am
ericus yesterday expressed the opin
ion that this was but the beginning,
and that other similar interests would
soon be In the handB of receivers.
The appointment of R. I* Williams
■and S. D. Warfield as receivers again
places the Seaboard largely In con
trol of the Williams faction. Mr.
John Skelton Williams, formerly
president of the Seaboard, Is well
known In Amerlcus*, where he form
erly came frequently upon official bus
iness for the company.
It is not believed that placing of
'’ the property Into the hands of re-
-celvers will disturb the public gen
erally to any extent for the reason
that the stock has not paid dividends
anyway, and the bonds of the com.
pany are owned by the financial Inter
ests In the big cities.
In some quarters It Is believed that
the failure of the Seaboard will have
.a salutary instead of a depressing ef
fect upon conditions generally. Inas
much as this course has been Im
pending tor some time.

SALARY UST FIXED AT
MEETING OF COUNCIL
Lew Changes for Current
. Year Made.
The arrangement of the salary list
and election of officers and heads of
departments was an important feature
of the meeting of the city council
Friday night, more especially to the
number thus directly Interested.
The salary of the Mayor was again
fixed at $900, the old figure.
The salary of Mayor protem will
be $150 In addition to the regular al-
dermanic salary of $100. And mayor-
proteni Childers will grace this posi
tion during the good year 1908.
City Attorney R. L. Maynard was
re-elected to that position, which he
has filled with so much ability, and
the salary Increased to $400 from
$300.
City Marshal W. II. Feagln was
re-elected to that position at the sal
ary of $300, In addition to that of
police chief.
City Engineer Poe was re-elected to
that position at a salary of $1,500, anti
in addition thereto he Is permitted
to perform other work for himself
which will materially Increase his
eariiings during the course of a ydar.
No changes were made In the wa
ter office,I or was there any addi
tion to the force, as was expected.
Fire chief W. P. McArthur was re
elected to that position and Ills salary
fixed at $900, an increase of $60 per
annum, as was Assistant Chief Mor
ris at $760, an increase of $30 per
annum over former pay.
The firemen’s pay was fixed at
$600 each, the old figure, resulting
In the “walk-out" next day. -
Engineer Robert Cameron, at the
city pumping station was re-elected
and his salary Increased from $83 to
$90 per month for the year.
These were the only places filled
by council. The standing committees
will look after their respective de
partments, and all employes will be
again chosen, including Sexton Gid-
dlngs and Street Superintendent W.
D. Smith.
The extra street gang under Over
seer Kleckley will be discontinued,
thus curtailing expenses.
f FROM THE FINE. WOODS.
Jfyomel's Aromatic Air Is Guaranteed
to Cure Cuturrh.
Americus has witnessed a few
strikes 1 nher career as a municipal
ity, but the climax was reached yes
terday morning when the fire depart
ment, with the exception of Chief Mc
Arthur and Assistant Chief Morris,
went out In a body.
And the going out was not in res
ponse to an alarm, though for an
hour it was not a little alarming from
the flremanlc standpoint.
Five men thus quit work, and their
places have been filled.
The five firemen, G. C. Morgan, C.
E. Guerry, J. I. Hudson, Jr., J. R.
Massey and R. L. Barden, doubtless
thought their salaries should have
been Increased, with others, and
when Informed that the old figure,
$600 would stand, they quit
The matter was Immediately report
ed, and a called meeting of the fire
committee of the city council was
held soon thereafter.
There was nothing to do but fill
the positions thus vacated.
This was quickly done and within
an hour W. J. Tinsley, R. D. Powell,
Stafford Smith, Robert Price and
Harrison Finch were on duty as
firemen and busy at work.
Messrs. Tinsley and Powell had
recently done police duty, but as
their time was up last night they
readily took the new places.
The firemen who thus walked out
are experienced men, several having
served long In that position. The
council evidently though $600, with
uniforms furnished and the time off
allowed, was sufficient pay, and did
not Increase it.
The walkout caused a breeze of in
terest at headquarters, but the force
Is all complete again.
DEMAND FOR STOCK
GOOD IN AMERICUS
Mules Bringing An Excellent
Price.
Amerlcus stock dealers are doing
good business already, despite the
money stringency, and selling many
fine mules at top notch figures. One
dealer yesterday sold to' a prosper
ous farmer here a string of ten Ken
tucky "beauties” for $2,300 round
figure, or $230 each. Good mules are
no higher than last season, and as
they are the great essential in the
cotton fields the farmer must have
them at any reasonable figure. The
season of selling has not fnlly open
ed in Americus as yet, and when it
does the handsome blondes and brun
ettes of the bluegrass region will be
sold In numbers as in seasons agone.
When using the Hyornei treatment
for the cure of catarrh, the air you
breathe is like that on the 'mountains
high above the sea level, where the
pine woods fill the air with aromatic
healing that gives health and strength
to those suffering from diseases
of the respiratory organs. The heal
ing balsams of Hyomel reach the
most remote air cells of the throat,
nose and lungs, destroying all catar
rhal germs and giving quick relief
and cure.
Hyomel has performed almost mir
aculous cures of catarrh, often re
storing health In chronic cases that
had given up all hope of recovery.
At the first symptoms of catarrhal
troubles use Hyomel and see how
quickly you get relief and cure. The
complete outfit costs but one dollar,
and Is sold by Dodson's Pharmacy
under a guarantee to refund the mon
ey if It does not give satisfaction.
