Mr. Sam E. Warlick relurned yes
terday from New York, where for
two weeks he has been busy buying
spring goods for his house, the Pinks
ton Company. Mr. Warlick was
among the first of Southern buyers to
reach New York, and for several days
was the observed among observers
In the big wholesale districts, and thus
easily secured what he wanted In
spring specialties. Later, however,
the boys from Dixie fairly swarmed
the metropolis, the number running
Into the thousands, and business
boomed with the manufacturers and
wholesalers. Mr. Warwick bought a
superb stock, but under trying cir
cumstances from a weather ^ stand
point. Snow covered Gotham's streets
to a depth of nine inches on the
level, and to a man from the genial
sunny South, who never sees snow
except In the north, this was enough
to deter even the most strenuous of
buyers. But not him, as attested by
the goods already arriving here.

While Americus "tea-sippers" or
der the "goods" to some extent, the
buying of booze here Is dlscontounted
by the Macon boozer, who still con
sumes It by the carload. A grand to
tal of 13,500 covers the number of
liquor packages that have been re
ceived at the local express office since
the first of January. These packages
varied greatly in size, some ranging
up to bundles big enough to carry a
case or more of wet goods. Saturday
a car and a half of liquor reached
Macon from Jacksonville and the en
tire contents went to people living
In that city. All day long a constant
stream of people could be seen going
to and from the express company’s
offices on Forsyth street. As aa result
of this big business tho officers of the
Southern Express company have de
elded to open a new office where noth
Ing but wet goods will be handled.
