THE AMERICUS WEEKLY TFMES-RECORDER. FRIDAY, MARCH 20th, 1908;
Carried
Every woman covets a
shapely, pretty figure, and
many of them deplore the
loss of their girlish forms
after marriage. The bearing
of children is often destructive
to the mother’s shapeliness.
All of , this can be avoided,
however, by the use of Mother’s Friend before baby comes, as this
„° t liniment always prepares the body for the strain upon it, and
reserves the symmetry of her form. Mother's Friend overcomes all the
? „ er 0 f child-birth, and carries the expectant mother safely through
»h;s critical period without pain. It is woman’s greatest blessing.
Thousands gratefully tell of the benefit and relief derived from the,
use of this wonderful '
Mother’s
book, telling all about
this liniment, will be sent free.

DOLLAR BANQUET
BY BOARD Of TRADE
The Board at Trade will soqn cele
brate Its second anniversary with a
dollar banquet. , ,
Steps to this end were taken at (he
recent meeting of the organization.
The matter of a banquet was
brought up by Mr. Thomas E. Mitchell.
Alter some discussion It was decided
that the new committee on Enter
tainment, which will be appointed by
President Allen, should take hold of
the matter and arrange for a dollar
banquet at as early a date as prac
ticable.
It was felt that a popular price din
ner was better than a high prlged af
fair at which the attendance would be
more limited.
What Is desired is tp secure the at
tendance of as many of the citizens of
Americus In the forward movement
as possible, and also to have as large
a number of ladles present as can be
induced to grace the occasion.
The entertainment committee
soon as appointed will get to work on
the details. The dinner of the Board
of Trade a year ago was a very suc
cessful and highly enjoyable affair.
The second dinner should ,be none the
less successful and enjoyable.
'.It Is probable that the dinner will
be given early In April.
PEACH CANNERY
IN PROSPECT
Maryland Capitalists Are
Much Interested.
A Lazy Liver
May be only a tired liver, or a starved
liver. It would bo a stupid as well os
savage thing to beat a weary or starved
man becauso he lagged In his work. So
In treating the lagging, torpid liver It Is
a great mistake to lash It with strong
drastic drugs. A torpid liver Is but an
Indication of an Ill-nourished, enfeebled
body whose organs are weary with over
work. Start with the stomach and allied
organs of digestion and nutrition. Put
them In working order and see how
quickly your liver will become active.
Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery
has made many marvelous cures of "liver
trouble" by its wonderful control of the
.organs of digestion and nutrition. It re
stores the normal activity of the stomach,
Increases tho secretions of tho blood-mak
ing glands, cleanses th»system from poi
sonous accumulations, and so relieves the
liver of the burdens Imposed upon it by
the defection of other organs.

There Is an excellent prospect that
Americus will have a big peach can
ning factory in operation when the
fruit season openB this year.
Recently tt)e Times Recorder told of
the visits here of the Roberts Bro
thers, of'Maryland, who are large
canners of peaches and .other fruits
vand vegetables.
These gentlemen were much Im
pressed with the opportunity offered
here for a large canning factory.
They, visited the several great
peach orchards hereabout, talked with
the growers, and were much Impress
ed with the prospects In their line of
business.
After *heir departure Secretary
Pruitt, of the Board of Trade, got Into
communication with them.
Several letters have passed, and the
Maryland parties state that they will
probably soon take the matter up ac
tively again, with the Idea of locating
a factory here in tinje for this sea
son's peach crop.
If the factory Is built it-may be
the means of inducing the planting of
large quantities of vegetables as
well. Such a factory could use the
products of thousands of acres of
tomatoes and other vegetables as well
as all of the peaches offering.
With the rapid development of the
peach industry in Sumter county a
canning factory must sooner or later
be established. As It Is, It is not
unlikely that one will be In operation
this fall.
Messrs. Jossey, Ansley and Pruitt
are a committee of the Board of-
Trade who will keep In touch with
Roberts Bros.

JOHN GODWIN IS DEAD;
LAST OF BROTHERS
Summons Game Suddenly
to Him AIsoj
While at his usual avocation Fri
day morning, at his home near Pel
ham, Mr. John Godwin suddenly fell
to the floor an<$ expired, the third
member of thls f family of three bro
thers to thus meet death, and all
within a brief period.
Telegrams announcing the death of
Mr. Godwin wore sent immediately to
his sister and other relatives in and
near Americus.
Mr. Godwin was, until recently, a
resident of Sumter, living near Am
ericus, but some time since removed
to Hartsfleld. where he has been en
gaged in business.
His death, in the manner indicted,
brings to an epd the career "three
Godwin brothers, each of whom fell
dead, and all- within the brief period
of seven months. Heart affection, it
is supposed, was the cause of death
of all. i '
' Apparently well, robust and.strong,
they died In a moment, and without
the slightest warning.
TWO of the "Godwin boys” as they
were familiarly known among their
hundreds of friends, resided on
beautiful farms four miles from Am
ericus, surrounded by every comfor£
and enjoyment of life.
These were Bram and Arnold God
win. Their handsome farms adjoin
ed, and never were there two more
devoted brothers.
Early on the morning of August
1st, last year, but little more than
seven months ago, both brothers fell
jlead within the space of a half hour,
the shock produced by the death of
Branf Godwin proving fatal to his
brother when he viewed the body.
Both lay dead upon the same bed,
united in death as they had ever
been united in life.
This Instance, In itself remarkable,
is rendered more so In the death of
the remaining brother, John God
win, aB occurlng Friday.
John and Arnold Godwin < were
twins, Bram Godwin being the elder,
of the three. 'Sumter county boasted
no more stearllng citizens than the
“Godwin boys” and the death of the
one remaining brother will cause
sadness among many friends.
Mr. John Godwin Is survived by
his wife.and four children. He was
about fifty-five years of age and a
Confederate veteran. His sister, MIsb
Tobe Goittvln, and other relatives left
immediately for Pelham to attend the
funeral.
