Brown stock Is going up In Amerl-
cus with a bound, and hundreds here
have already announced allegiance to
Ltttle Joe's flag.
Sumter Is strong In numbers, and
presents the most magnificent
array of candidates for office of any
county In the Empire State.
The candidates in the legislative
race will now handshake the* able
voter harder than before. Three are
"called" where but two can be chosen.
Turn on the day current; pave the
streets; get busy with the electric
railway. Wake up, all along the line
and build up Amerlcus.
Mr. W. B. Hudson has launched
forth In the family grocery business
on Lee street, occupying his own
double-store, recently renovated.
Citizens are. counting the days
when the Amerlcus Ice Co.’s plant
will start up for the remainder of
summer, and Ice will not be a luxury.
The Amerlcus National Bank Is now
at home In its magnificent new quar
ters, and many congratulations —‘
heaped upon Ira officials.
Queen Elberta views with alarm
the threatened attentions of Jack
Frost, but hope Is expressed that the
Queen will escape all danger.
While millinery openings in Am
erlcus will not be general this spring,
the size of the bonnet and Uie bill
will be as big as a major-general.
More people still are seeking homes
and board In Amerlcus. If houses ape
scarce now, what will conditions
here next fall?
Col. A. Aug. Harris doesn’t live In
Sumter any more, but the candidates
did not know this and surrounded
him in a bunch yesterday.
Lawyer Cleve Webb, wearing _
by 9 smile and her picture next his
heart, came back from Macon yester
day. The bells may ring for him.
Elberta Is all right up to this hour,
having escaped the late blizzard, and
the only fear now Is at the full moon
In April.
If but a third of the young peaches
now on the trees here reach maturity
the orchard men of Amerlcus will reap
a fortune.
i.Three weeks from today- and It’will
be all over except the shouting. And
twenty of the candidates running will
not enjoy the ■ scouting.

quito popular. There has been con
siderable discussion) as to whether
Mead comes entirely under this head,
but tho . fact that Judge Calhoun of
Atlanta has made a ruling In favor of
tho hovorage would Indicate Its clas
sification. In this connection Judge
Calhoun held that a drink known as
“Malt Mead,” which,contains , less
than 1 per cent of alcohol, Is not an

charging a man accused of violating
the prohibition law. In several Geor
