GOOD BLOOD
nature's protection against disease
: The preservation of health and prevention against disease is alrnos:
entirely dependent upon pure, healthy blood; every organ, tissue, nerve am.
sinew of the body draws on this vital fluid for nourishment and strength.
Poisons, humors and germs from various sources often get into the blood,
and then this great life-stream becomes a source of infection and disease,
instf^ of a nourishing, health-sustaining fluid. Heredity is likewise an
important factor, regulating the qual ity of the blood. Some persons are born
TO tlf tainted blood from diseased ancestry, and Scrofula in one of its numerous
forms is sure to crop out some time in life. Not only poisons in the blood
are responsible for disease, bnt when the circulation is run down and becomes
poor and weak in quality, then we see the effect in a general bad condition
of health, such as weakness, ‘sallow complexions, boils, and various skin
eruptions. All blood troubles require a tonic and blood purifier, and none
other equals S. S. S. It goes down to the
very foundation of the trouble, and removes
every particle of the poison or impurity from
the blood. And not only does S. S. S.
antidote the poisons, humors and germs, but
......... it possesses health-giving, tonic properties,
PURELY VEGETABLE which build upand strengthen weak, impov
erished blood, and fortifies the system against
disease. ~ S. S. S. permanently cures Rheumatism, Catarrh, Sores and Ulcers,
Scrofula, Eczema, Tetter, and all other skin diseases and disorders. Book
on the blood and any medical advice free.

AMERICUS PROUD TITLE
“CITVOF HOMES”
Street Railway Will Relieve Congestion Beginning
to be Felt.
BUILDING AND LOAN ASSOCIATION HAS FINE FIELD
Americus is pre-eminently a city of comfortable homes, a city where
even a poor -nan can have a pretty cottage with a-liberal slice of ground
about It where he can have flowers as ornaments and vegetables that will
make Bis dally menu attractive and healthful.
Beautiful homes are to be found on Its main residence streets, homes
,nat would b; an adornmen: to Macon, or Columbus, or Savannah, homes
that are tile outward Indications of wealth and refinement, and of the desire
for surroundings that are tasteful and pleasing to the eye.
Kverywhe-e, throughout the city, one finds smaller residences that are
pleasing lit appearance, well built, comfortable in equipment, bowered in
grass and trees and flowers, homes that are not costly but possess an indi
viduality that is gratifying to their occupants and to the passer by .
Unfortunately the tendency In recent years has been to build somewhat
ico close together. The inability to get far away from places of business,
the absence ol a cheap and quick means of transportation, has served to
congest the population more than is ordlnaly found in cities of the size of
Americus. In a measure this has had its advantages as well as Its draw
backs. While it has prevented the smaller homes from having as much
garden space is otherwise would have been, the case, It has made the city
compact, Insured to it police and fire protection, and enabled public im
provements, such as sidewalks, sewers, etc., to be pushed forward to an
extent that would not have been possible In a community more widely
scattered.
It is gratifying to know, though, that soon the necessity for building
closely together will be removed, and the opportunity will be offered to
every %an to -ecure land cheaper than now, to enjoy the possession and use
of a greater ground area than is now possible. The street car line that Is
xpected to he In dperation by fall will.open up-the outer section of the
ity to settlers, making It possible for men of somewhat limited means to
buy land cheaper than at present, to be at some distance from their work,
and at the same time able to reach it speedily, comfortably and at any hout
of the dky.
This Is one of the groatest services that the electric street railroad
will confer upon the city. Americus Is growing steadily, the vacant lots
have been pretty well all filled In, and the time has come when the man
seeking a horse must go a considerable distance from the business section.
To the man of means, , wltn plenty of time and a horse and buggy at his
Usposal, this works no hardship, but Is rather a blessing. But to the poor
man, to the man working for a limited salary, the reverse Is the case. The
treet railway will remove these obstacles and permit of a rapid extension
of the small and pretty homer, that will- mark the development of Americus
during the next few years. ,
Many people are boarding In Americus, or living In rooms, who would
be only tod glad to have a ueat and pretty cottage home, with a garden
attached, some distance from the city hall, if they were offering and a street
car service were available. The street cars will be In operation before
many months. The homes of the class mentioned must come soon after.
Local capital will be ready to lake up the Important work. And then there
must come an Americus building and loan association. Such an Institu
tion, conducted conservatively, should be an eminent success In Americus,
as they have been elsewhere, rnd become a prominent factor Is the upbuild
ing of the city.
The City- of Homes! That is a proud title for any community to bear.
And Americus which already deserves the'title, will be more than ever' en,
titled to wear it a year or two hence.
CANNING FACTORY
MAN COMES SOON
To Complete Details for
Roberts Bros. Plant.
Early in April It Is expected that
a representative of Roberts Bros.,
of Baltimore, who propose to put In
a canning factory here, will be In
Americus. A tetter to that effect was
received yesterday.
This means that the factory is prac
tically assured this season, subject
of course to any disaster which might
befall the peach crop on account of a
late frost. In such an event the fac
tory would likely not be built until
next fall.
The object of the coming of the
firm’s representative Is to select a
suitable site and arrange other de
tails in connection with the enterprise.
A large ground space will be needed,
as the sheds In which the canners
work are extensive. The machinery
Is less than other manufacturing
plants generally require.
Roberts Bros, have a number of
canneries In the Georgia peach sec
tion, one large one being located at
Fort Valley. The great gain made In
the last two years In Sumter county
peach orchards has attracted the at
tention of this progressive firm to
Americus.
It Is expected that the new fac
tory will have a capacity of 200 bush
els a day. Besides peaches, the fac
tory will can vegetables of all kinds.
This will not be done this season, as
the cannery will not be ready until
after the vegetable season Is over.
A large numher of hands are to be
employed during the season, which
will last well Into the middle of the
summer.
