MR. HOOPER FOR STATE
IN TRIAL OF WATTS
Solicitor-General Frank A. Hooper
"has returned here from Abbeville,
where he went recently as associate
counsel in the case of the State
versus Watts, murder; the trial hav
ing been postponed until a date in
June when it will be heard at a spe
cial term of Wilcox court. Watts
. killed young McDuffie and also shot
down the latter’s brother some time
ago, the homicide creating a great
sensation at the time;* owing to the
prominence of alt the parties thereto.
A great array of counsel will appear
both for the state and the defendant
at the trial, among bis attorneys be
ing H. D. D. Twiggs of Savannah and
John. R. Cooper of Macon, besides
l numerous others.
CONVICTS ARE A DRUG
ON HANDS OF LESSENS
Fear Is expressed that unless con
ditions materially Improve within
the next few months Georgia will have
a difficult time In leasing her con
victs again at anything like a satis
factory price. It Is said the only rea
son that thoso lumber manufacturers
In South Georgia who employ con
vict labor have not shut down their
plants as a result of the business de
pression is that they arc required un
der their contracts with the state
to keep the convicts at work and
that Is the only way in which they
can do it. Several of those employ
ing convicts have recently urged the
secretary of the Prison Commission
to send them no more men; those they
have, they say, are largely a drug
on their hands.

AVENUE TO COLLEGE 1$
NOT OPENED AS VET
In planning the approaches to the
Agricultural college site here an
imaginary avenue, the main approach,
leads westward to Lee street at
Glessner street. This means of con
venient approach Is still blocked, and
all traffic of vehicles is forced around
the Felder street route. Very little
work would be required to open
the main Western avenue, and this
should be done. The Seaboard Rail
way track would require an Inex
pensive crossing, while little road
work on either side would be requir
ed. The opening of this avenue would
greatly facilitate travel to and
from the college.
Important Decision
It Is important that you should
decide to take only Foley’s Honey and
Tar when you have a cough or cold
as it will cure the most obstinate
racking cough and expel the cold from
your system. Foley's Honey and Tar
contains no harmful drugs. Insist
