Griffin, Rome and Colum-
bus Have Death List.
ATLANTA, GA.. April 25—(Special)
-Telegraphic reports from Alabama,
Mississippi, Louisiana and Georgia
place the total deaths In the storm of
yesterday at 318 and the Injured over
1,000. Nine were killed near Rome.
Purvis, Miss., was the worst sufferer,
the death list in that vicinity being

GRIFFIN, GA., April 25.—(Special)
—This city was struck by a cyclone at
an early hour this morning, a number
of people being killed and injured.
Among the dead are Mrs, M..O. Chap
el, Mrs, Harris and son, Mrs. Bullard,
Mrs. Randolph Harrison, Mrs. H. E.
Green. The Rushton cotton mill was
badly wrecked, as well as twenty-five
houses damaged together with the
Baptist church. The property damage
is placed at 050,000.
PRESTON, GA., April 25.—(Special)
—The cyclone passed five miles south
of this town about 3:30 o'clock this
morning. Five houses were wrecked,
one being occupied by John Freeman
and family. The roofs were lifted
Irom a number of cribs.
COLUMBUS, GA., April 25.—(Spe
cial.)—At an early hour this morning
while the storm was at Its height, the
old North Highlands pavilion was
blown down and two persons killed
and five Injured more or less serlouB-
ly. The dead are Mrs. Viola Norris
and her 9-year-ol d daughter. The
Injured are Mrs. J. J. Dunn, three
children, amf Willie Norris. Mrs. Dunn
is the aunt of the dead woman. The
alarm was given by the son of Mrs.
Dunn, and helpers hastened from
Bibb City. The building was an old
one and in bad repair.

The electric storm which swept Am
ericas and vicinity early yesterday
morning was one of the most severe
In months and created considerable
uneasiness, many fearing a cyclone.
The Inky darkness was cleared by
vivid flashes of lightning, the rain
pouring In torrents in the meantime.
Reports from the country district
failed to show any damage wrought.

HOME OF MRS. BAGLEY
The Social Club was delightfully en
tertained at Its last meeting by Mrs.
W. D. Bagley. The spirited contest
edgame played was greatly enjoy
ed. Delightful refreshments, codsist-
lng of a sweet course, was served.

AMERICUS IS GOING TO
PLAY MERCER IN MAY
What promises to be one of the mint
spirited ball games of the series play
ed by Amerlcus will take place In
Macon in May upon the occasion of
the AmerlcuB union picnic there. The
locals will challenge the Mercer
University team.
The latter club Is made up of
stalwart players, trained by dally
practice, but the Amerlcus sphere
twlrlers will make It Interesting for
thsm all the same.
Bynum will give them a lesson In
ball tossing.
The challenge has not been formally
issued,' but local players stated yes
terday that' llr would be done. And
if the two teams measure bats upon
that occasion It will be well worth a
trip to the City of Big Sleep to see
the contest
The locals will have two weeks more
in which to practice and shape up
the team, and fsel confident of their
ability to meet the student body. And
the Waterloo hurled upon Cordele a
few dayS ago will be repeated In the
larger village.
In the meantime the local team is
working upon the ball park and other
wise preparing to Interest the home
fans this summer.

sion- Saturday' at the Agricultural
College, on invitation of President
Collum. The meeting was begun at
8:30 o’clock. A general talk was
