Married
Women
Every woman covet* a

preserves the symmetry of her form. Mother’s Friend overcomes all the
Janger of chiid-birth, and carries the expectant mother safely through

Thousands gratefully tell,of the benefit and relief derived from tho
„ 5 e of this wonderful
remedy. Sold by all
druggists at $1.00 per

JOINER IN STRIPES IS
DOING WORK IN GAMPS
Attired in a new and becoming suit
of stripes L. C. Joiner, the Americus
Insurance agent convicted of for
gery and sent to the penitentiary for
five years, passed through the city
yesterday, en route to one of the lum
ber camps near Arlington.
The “crazy” plea. It seems, failed
completely, and the debonnalre young
forger is down to hard and honest
work in the pen. He iwll doubtless
getused to it.
With Joiner here yesterday were
several other striped convicts.
The unkept beard lie wore while
on trial here in Americus, and which
really gave him a “crazy” look, bad
been shaved off when the stripes were
put on him. He wor a derby hat
with blB new spring suit, and pres
ented a real jaunty appearance.
Some of those who saw him prob
ably wondered how they had been
fooled by the “crazy" plea.
Joiner laughed and chatted gaily
while making inquiries about old
friends In Americus, where be spent
six or eight months before breaking
into the penitentiary.
After his conviction, every effort
was made to have Joiner from the
stripes, the plea of “crazy” being
made among others. He was sent to
the state farm at Mllledgevllle
month ago, but evidently the official*
there did not believe him at all nutty.
And their opinion Is shared by
hundreds herq who knew the young
forgei- very well.

Result of Census Count is
Pleasing.
Americus’ population, 11,272,
shown by'the census count just com
pleted Is quite satisfactory, and evi
dences the city’s rapid growth In re
cent years, not only In point of pop-
uatlon but In commercial importance
likewise.
Her title, that of the commercial
capital of southern Georgia and most
Important city, is well sustained, as
heretofore. .
Her growth in population since the
Federal census of 1900 has been fifty
per cent
This, In itself, Is a magnificent show
ing and one few cities can make. The
Federal census of 1900 gave Ameri
cus a population of 7,600. The cen
sus Just completed contains the
names of 11,272 an Increase of 3,700
population.
These names—11,272—are officially
recorded, with the street address of
each name taken.
And others still will be added ere
the new city directory Is published
and issued In June, as contemplated,
Already several absentees from the
city have been reported, and the offi
cial total by June 15th will probably
exceed 11,500.
The work was done very carefully
and thoroughly. ‘ '
The city council defrayed the ex
pense of the census taking, although
directory Is to be issued by Messrs.
Ames & Fort, upon their own
count. Mr. W. P. Persons was be
hind the enumeration, doing his work
very conscientiously.
Every citizen will feel gratifica
tion in this evidence of the city’s
splendid growth. Instead of going
backward, or standing still, as
many towns are doing, Americus has
been forging forward, and adding
yearly to her greatness.
The best little city in the South,
her motto will continue to be "up
ward and onward.”
