PLAINS, GA., June 25 —On Inst
Wednesday afternoon Master Hertprt
French celebrated hi selghth birth
day with a reception to twenty-flv* of
his little friends. The home me-
sented a scene of annimation when
the belles and beaux of the future
assembled, and many were the games
arranged for their pleasurd. During
the afternoon cream and cake was
served, and the happy guests wlfhed
for their young host many annivers
aries fraught with as much pleasure
as was this one.
Mr. Louie Timmerman gave
pleasant entertainment to a congen
ial party of young folks one everting
this past week. All kinds of games
were played, and the occasion Wf& a
particularly enjoyable one. '
A spend-the-day party on last
Wednesday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. A. C. Wellons was a delightful
affair of the past week. The occas
ion was the celebration of Mr. Wci-
lon’s birthday. The day was most
enjoyably spent in an informal man
ner by a few invited guests.

Miss Ida .Wilder, otter a brief visit
to Mr. IW. R. Eubanks, left several
days ago for her home in Macon.

ATIANTA, GA., June 23.-^ (Spe
cial) _-With the greatest possible en
thusiasm the nomination of JoBeph M.
Brown for Governor was made tm-
clal, by the Democratic party in con
vention assembled today. The con-
ventlon was held in the Grand theatiw
Over 1,700 delegates were present,
this being probably the largest con
vention the pivrty has ever held in
Georgia. The presence of a thousand
spectators added to the political de
lirium of the hour.
From the opening address by Tem
porary Chairman Pendleton to the
close of the Convention, there were
three hours of good natured jubilation
over the recent great vMtory.
The speaker who received the great
est applause was Gov. Terrell, who
responded to calls and was given
flattering ovation.
The nominating speech by Judge
Twiggs, of Chatham, at times carried
the vast assemblage off its feet, es
pecially his reference to tho dismis
sal of Brown, and the statement that
he will never be kicked out again.
Throughout the convention there waJ

feeling extended to the opposition,
especial care being taken to avoid
stinging remarks about the present
administration.

Grover Cleveland, the only Demo
cratic occupant of the White House
since the war, died at 8:40 o'clock
Wednesday morning at his home In
Princeton,-N. J. HIs death was due
to heart' trouble, combined with
kidney ami liver troubles. He had
been in failing health for soqje months
but the end came, rather, suddenly.
