afternoon It is believed the flow will
be sufficient for all purposes. The
stream was penetrated at a depth
of near four hundred feet, and the
water arose in the eight inch pipe to,
within forty feet of the surfuce. Con
siderable sand was encountered, but
this difficulty may be easily disposed
of. It Is believed that the stream
struck yesterday is probably the
same from which the city's wells ob
tain their flow, as the depth of two
of them are about the same. If the
ice company succeeds with the new
well the water situation here will be
much more easily handled.
Notification was , received Mon
day by Mr. Crawford Wheatley of
Ills appointment as one of the four
delegates from Georgia to the Impe
rial Council, Shriners of North Amer
ica. The meeting will he held at SL
Paul on July 14, and Mr. Wheatley
will go on from Denver to St. Paul.

ple, of which Mr. Wheatley is a

Col. Tom Hudson's agricultural de
partment has prepared a bill which
it will urge some member of the leg
islature to introduce, providing what
shall constitute a bushel of peaches.
There is no law on this subject The
department suggests that 64 pounds
constitute a legal bushel. This ac

Chairman Miller, of the recent state
executive committee, lias consolidated
the election results in the recent cir
cuits for superior court judges and
solicitor-general. In the Southwes
tern circuit, composed of the counties
of Sumter, Schley, Macon. Lee, Webs
ter and Stewart. Judge Z. A. Little
john received a total of 3,878 votes.
Messrs. J. R. Williams and NV. W.
Dykes, candidates for the office of
solcitor-general, received 2,085 and
1,781 votes respectively, Mr. Wil
liams majority in the circuit being
