Sumter’s pensioners will receive the
goodly sum of $7,640 when Georgia’s
million paid nnnually to veterans and
wltiows is distributed. Captain John
A. Cobb of the court of ordinary matt
ed to Commissioner Lindsey yester

of all pensioners in Amerlcus and
Sumter county, and the checks there
for will he forthcoming within
month or two. There are 128 names
on the {tension rolls of Sumter coun
ty. and the aggregate sum paid out
here nnnually Is 17,640. There will be
no more quarterly payments, as here
after the pensioners will get their
mopev !n one lump sum. ,n is not
known yet when payment will be
made, but this will be done as soon as

The disease Is said to have start
ed In Asia, and to result from the
use of corn not properly ripeued or
cooked, Pellagra Is one ot the hard
est of the known diseases to combat,
and It Is said to he rapidly spreading
throughout the south.
A year or two ago a large number
of farm animals died near Amerlcus
from eating spoiled Western corn.
This, doubtless, was a form of pella
gra. Wholesome meal Is all right; It
is only the rotten, or soured corn
made Into meal, that Is injurious.
Be careful in buying yonr meal and
thereby sidesteji tile pellagra and the
