Plains, Ga., Feb. 4.—One of tile
most elaborate entertainments of
the season was the reception given
by Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Hudson, Sr.,
complimentary to their guests, Mr.
and Mrs. M. U Hudson, Jr„ on Thurs
day evening. In the parlor where
the receiving party' stood, bowls and
vases of narcissuses and hyacinths
were exceedingly pretty with their
background of green foliage. In the
hall pot plants in Jardinires alone
were used. The dining room was In
purple and gold. The center piece of
the table was a vase of jonquils plac
ed in a mass of purido violets ami
ferns. Mcsdames R. S. Oliver, Ross
Dean and Miss Marguerite Hudson as-
sited Mrs. Hudson iu serving
freshments, which consisted of three
dainty courses.
Most delightfully was "The Merry
Widow Club" entertained by Mrs.
Colquitt Logan at the residence of
•Mrs. .1. E. French ou Thursday after
noon. The day was beautiful in its
warmth ami sunshine, the air velve
ty as rose petals. The parlors'and,
hall held glowing masses of yellow
jonquils and narcissuses. Vases o.
the fragrant blossoms being placed
on mantels and tables.
"Forty-two" and "heart dice," were
the games played . Miss Ethel .
, ler won the prize, a pretty picture,
the conclusion of the games, delicious
frozen punch with nabisco wafers
were served. Mrs. Logan has a cor
dial manner that makes her an ideal
hostess, and the occasion was a pleas,
ant one for all present.
Prof. Newsome of Claxton, deliv
ered a lecture on "The Problems of
Life," at the auditorium Friday even
ing. which -was replete with good
advice.
Rev. Clarence Roberts of Parrott,
was a visitor In Plains one dav thi

Preston. Ga., Feb. 3.—Mr. W. W.
Tinsley, District Deputy of the Wood
men of the World, has been in town
for the last, few days organizing
camp. At a rousing meeting last
night applicants were passed upon
and officers elected. J. L. Kenyon
was elected Counselor Commander;
T. J. Welch, Banker, and W. E. Jen
kins, Clerk.
Mr. Samps Bell, of Leary, was
mingling with old friends here a few
days last week. •
Sir. Harper Reeves, who has been
sick for some time, is reported much
improved.
Miss Erma Richardson, of Rich
land. was a fair visitor here Tuesday
coming over in the interest of her
music class here.
Mr. A. H. Hartsfieid left here
Sunday lust for Richland, where he
has accepted a position as general
manager of Mr. E. U Alston's turpen
tine farm.
Messrs. John and W. E. Coffin, of
Richland, brought over a goodly
bunch of line stock Tuesday; but
since Preston has a new sales stable
now under successful management, It
would be safe to presump "there was
not much doing.”
Mr. Sy Hawkins of Americus was a
welcome visitor here one day last
week, the agreeable guest of his
brother. Mr. J. W. A. Hawkins, while
here.
Mrs. Marguerite Oliver left lost
Monday upon an extended trip to
Cordele and other points, where she
will be the guest of friends.
Mr. W. L. Nicholson underwent an
operation for appendicitis on last
Tuesday. It proved successful In
every way, and his friends hope to
see him out again soon.
Miss Margie Cleveland and Miss
McMuIlln, of Atlantar who have been
very pleasantly visiting Miss Florrle
McNeal, have returned home.
Dr. B. T. Wise, of Plains, was a'
prominent visitor hero Tuesday,
