RIDS THE SYSTEM
> OF CATARRH
Catarrh is a blood disease which causes a general inflammation of the
Inner linings or mucous membranes of the body. The diseasing of these
delicate surfaces and tissues produces all the well known symptoms of the
trouble, snch as ringing noises in the head and ears, tight, stuffy feeling in
the nose, pains above the eyes, irritation of the throat, sometimes slight
lever, and a general feeling of weakness and ill health. Even the lungs
become affected by the continual passage of impure blood through them, and
there is danger of consumption if the disease is allowed to remain in the
system. S. S. S. cures Catarrh because it purifies the blood. It goes into
the circulation and removes every particle of the catarrhal matter, making
this vital fluid pure, rich and healthy. Then the inflamed membranes begin
to heal, every symptom disappears, the constitution is built up and health
restored. S. S. S. rids the system of catarrh by attacking the trouble at its
head and entirely removing the cause from the blood, thus making a perma
nent and lasting cure. S. S. S. is made entirely from health-giving roots,
herbs and barks, and for this reason is an especially safe and desirable medicine.

DECISION IN TRIAL OF jfACTORY AND HOTEL A
CLARK IS AFFIRMED PREY TO THF STORM
As Rendered By Court of
Appeals.
“ Emmett Clark of Amertcus, must
serve the sentence imposed by the
City Court here upon his trial for al
leged violation of the prohibition law,
unless another hearing should be
granted or the case appealed to the
Supreme Court of the United States.
That is the only alternative,
wonld seem Just now, and an appeal
to the Federal Court Is an expensive
proposition.
The decision of the State Court of
Appeals was made known here yes
terday and pending the sending or
the remltlttur to Clerk Allen, .Mr.
Clark Is still at liberty on bond.
The bond Is for $1,000. as given at
the time of the trial.
Mr. Clark, It will be recalled, was
convicted of the charge of selling
whiskey, the ofllcers here asserting
that they saw him thus engaged,
while a dozen or more filled bottles
were found In bis room at the time
the midnight raid was made last
fall.
The sentence Imposed by Judge
Crisp, upon the verdict of guilty as
rendered by the Jury, was a "term

upon conclusion of said term that the
Damage In the State Was
Considerable.
While Amerlcus escaped serious
damage from the fearful windstorm
that swept south Georgia during the
early hours of morning yesterday
fol lowed by torrential rain, other
localities were less fortunate and
much damage was done.
In Amerlcus the rainful was 1
Inches. The only damgae here was a
few fences and small outhousoB
blown down.
Tho storm was more severe around
Marshallville. .
It is said that the canning factory
there suffered great damage, a por
tion of It being blown upon the
Central Railway track where
freight train ran Into It later. The
roof of the hotel there was partially
blown off by the storm.
The weather yesterday, following
tho tempest of the day before, was
Ideal, but It will probably be much
colder today.

The Amerlcus Chapter, U. D. C., will
meet In regular session Friday
3:30 o'clock at the residence of Mrs.
James Taylor. The chief business
before the meeting is the selection of
a delegate and alternate to the spec
ial meeting of the Georgia Division,
U. D. C., to be held on March 11 for
the purpose of deciding on a location
for the Wirz monument.
It Is assured that Mrs. J. E. Mathis
will he named as the delegate, with
Mrs. Janies Taylor as alternate. Mrs.
Mathis Is in Atlanta now, hut should
she not remain until the meeting Mrs.
Taylor would represent the local
chapter at the meeting.
Another question to be decided at
the meeting on Friday will be the at
titude of the Amerieus chapter on the
question of a site. To this chapter
belongs the credit of having halted, at
the eleventh hour, the placing of the

fine Structure at Forsylh
and Jackson.
While he still has the subject under
consideration and has not yet reached
a definite conclusion, Mr. C. Ans
ley really contemplates the erection of
a handsome building upon Ills proper
ty, corner of Forsylh and Jackson
streets and one of the most valuable
and desirable business sites In Ame
icus. Already he has had an architect
to draw plans for a three story struc
ture, fronting Jackson and extendln,
hack about 130 feet on Forsyth, with
an entrance from both streets. The
brick buildings now occupying the
site, the old Kendrick corner build
ing and that occupied by the Postal
Co., would be torn away in the event
the new structure Is tq be pushed, and
tile modern building erected 111 their
stead would be an ornament to the
city ns well as a fine business In
vestment for Mr. Ansley. The designs
contemplate a large retail store on
comniod-
monunient at Andersonville. While j the ground floor, having

to Andersonville In the minds of the would he fitted up handsomely us of-
members of the local chapter, they
also believed firmly that Amerlcus
wo8 the logical place, and at the Sa
vannah convention the delegation
fought valiantly to that end.
Though badly In the minority, there
is an element in the state U. D. C.
which insists on Andersonville. While
not strong enough to win. they might
still he able to prevent a majority go
ing to either Amerlcus or Macon
long ns both of these cities were In
the contest. The enthusiasm for
Richmond, which was a forced one at
best, has oozed away, and efforts to
take the monument from Georgia
soil will doubtless be doomed to fail
ure at the Atlanta meeting.
The attitude of Amerieus will be an
important factor in the coming spec
ial session, both from the standpoint
of n bidder for the site, and ns the
chapter which saved the monumental
blunder. Hence Its action on Friday
will be of especial significance.

New York, Feb. 9.—The winter holds
two big days for the Bowery—that
part of the Bowery which Is waiting
for something to turn up. It Is nat
ural enough that Big Tim Sullivan's
name should he attached to both of
these really big days—and it Is. Tho
tlrst of the days Is Christmas, when
the "Big Fellow's" dinner Is pulled off
—free feed for the asking, and n big
feed at that. At these Christmas
dinners, the last course which Is
handed out—and this one the men get
on their way from the feeding hall to
the street—Is a ticket which Is good
for a pair of shoes and socks. The
second big day, then, comes early In
February when these tickets arc re
deemed. Today was the day.
Both of these functions take place
at the Sullivan headquarters, 207
Bowery. Between 4,500 and 5,000
shoe tickets were given out last
Christmas; and most of them wore
presented today.
There Is not such a lot of form
ality about tbe distribution. Th
some 5,000 pair of shoos, with ti cor
responding number of good warm
socks are plied up in two or three
rooms and are brought Into the meet
ing hall of the headquarters as fast
as needed. Half a dozen or so of
the local leaders take charge of the
giving out of the boxes. The men

lie station at that place was des
troyed by fire October 10, and a new
building Is being constructed under
the direction of Contractor J. W.
Lyatcs, who has In Ills employ two
white men and five negroes. The ne
groes, it Is said, found posted the fol
lowing warning, which was put a;
some time during Friday night:
"You negro carpenters, we give you
until Saturday night to leavu here
under penalty of death." I Signed)
Night Riders."
Similar threats arc .aid to have been
posted again last night.
Contractor Yates notified the Const
Line officials of this city, and spe
cial officers have been sent to work
up the case. The officers think they
have the guilty parties spotted.
He said that Yates tried to get
white carpenters to take jobs at
Pearson, but they refused to work
with negroes. Race prejudice is
thought to be at the bottom of the
trouble.
