last Saturday. In the parlor, where
an Improvised ixutofflce had been
made, the little folks received many
pretty tokens and St. Valentine greet
ings from Alias Florence Baldwin, who
acted as postmistress, while Alaster
Henry U. Arrington served as post
man to deliver the packages. After
receiving the Valentines, the young
guests were Invited Into the dining
room, which Imd been made unusually
attractive by quantities of daffodils
and violets, and where a delightful
course of refreshments were served.

Hattie Arrington, Ruth Scars. Nell

Five of the largest ahd finest plan
tation* In Sumter county were In
spected yesterday by Captain J. V.
Burk, of the state prison Inspection
board, and one of these, quite possi
bly, may be decided upon by the Pris
on Commission for the state convict
farm, upon which the white male
convicts will be employed. Among the -
plantations Inspected by Captain
Burk was the big Huguenln planta
tion, two near DeBoto, a portion of the
Hooks place, and the Speer farm near
the city. Capt. Burk was favorably
Impressed with these excellent lands,
and his report lo the Prison Commis
sion will doubtless be along that line.
The Commission wanla four thousand
acres Id one body, and Sumter can
furnish the good* desired. Upon re
turning to the city Capt. Burk In
spected the convict camp here, which
la In his regular line of duty, and as
usual found It In excellent condition.
