The retail druggists of this country
as a class, are noted for their high
standard if intelligence and honor
able dealing, but It Is a well known
fact that occasionally you will find
one who will try to sell yon some
thing else when you call for a remedy
of established reputation. He forgets
that your health Is more Important
than his pocketbook.
For example, when you ask for Dr.
Kilmer's Swamp-Root, the great Kid
ney, Liver and Bladder Remedy, don’t
let any druggist, drug clerk or store
keeper persuade you Into buying
something else In Its place. Every
time he succeeds In selling you
worthless substitute he makes more
profit, but you are humbugged at the
expense of your health.
For many years we have watched
with much interest the remarkable re
cord maintained by Dr. Kilmer’s
Swamp-Root. From the very begin
ning, the proprietors had so much con
fidence in It that they Invited every
one to send for a free sample bottle
so that people could judge of its great
curative value In even the most dis
tressing cases of kidney, liver and
bladder troubles.
On another page of this paper you
will find a few of the letters, prompt
ed by feelings of heartfelt gratitude,
that ore constantly coming to Dr.
Kilmer Company. No one can doubt
such sincere and honest testimony..

GHAPLAIN AT THE

The suggestion is made, and It
seems an eminently good one, that
provision be made for a chaplain at
the Third District Agricultural Col

ly an honorary one, carrying no sal

bis time os he could for the spiritual
benefit of the boys in attendance
the school.. The work of such an of
ficial Is not sectarian in Its nature,
consisting In addresses on moral
lines and general work among the
boys calculated to promote their

If the trustees ot the institution see
fit to establish the position ot chap-

Supt. Collum, It would not be sur

Mr. Lawrence has manifested great
Interest in the welfare of the stu
dents, frequently visiting them, and
the work Is one that would greatly
appeal to him.
A local chaplain would be In keep

undoubtedly meet with general favor.

In Distribution of Gonvicts
By State.
Sumter county la to receive twenty-
six able bodied felony convicts In the
apportionment to be made next week
by the State Prison Commission, this
number, with the misdemeanors al
ready employed on road work in the
county, making a total of probably
eighty able bodied zebras for Sumter.
Tbe 26 new zebras will be brought
to Americus from the nearest state
camp in this locality. Only negroes
will be thus employed.
iWIth such a force as this, Sumter's
roads will ho rapidly Improved.
In the re-dlstrlbutlon, according to
latest figures given out, Sumter coun
ty gets 26 "felonies"; Dooly 16;
Stewart 16; Terrell 19; Webster 6;
Leo 10; Thomas 31; Macon county 14;
Houston 26 and Dougherty 14.
Two neighboring counties, Schley
and Marlon, did not make application
for any of the convicts.
Of the larger counties Bibb gets
50; Fulton 117; Floyd 33; Muscogee
30; Richmond 64; Chatham 71. Ful
ton, of course, gets the Hon’d share.
The county commissioners of Sum
ter are completing all preparations
for sending after Its convicts.
Officials In many of the counties
which have made requisition for con
victs have been under the mistaken
Impression that ail they had to do was
to sit down and wait for tho state to
send it a convict gang, and then put
it to work.
The state Is not going to do any
thing of the kind. The prison com
mission will, not later than March 15,
deliver to each board of county com
missioners an order for tho number
of convicts to wbtcli that county is
entitled.
It will then become the duty ot
tho county authorities to send to the
camp upon which this order is made
and to transport the conricts from
such camp at its own expense to
tho county scat.
In ordfir to Insure safety tho com
mission will require each county em
ploy one of the guards now in the
service of the state for tho purpose
of transportation and Installation In
new quarters, such guard to bo re
tained for a week or two until sys
tem and order has been established.
This and all other expenses Inci
dent to the transfer of the convicts
from tho present leaso camps to the
county seats must be borne by the
respective counties.
Another tiling—there will bo no fa
vorites. Each county must take the
convicts Just 03 they come; none will
bo allowed to pick their men.
Tho commission will endeavor, in
so far as is possible, to give each
county an order upon tho lease camp
located nearest to .It, In order that
there may be no moro expense than
necessary in tho transfer..
It will be found In. a few Instances
that terms of certain convicts will
expire early In April, but tho countlsn
will have to take these convicts Just
as they come and on tho same basis
ns though they wero long-term men.
All wardens, physicians, and guards
in tbe services ot the counties are to
bo appointed by the commission, bat
tho commission has Invited tkn
county authorities to nominate these
officers and will approve such nomi
nations If the nominees are found to
bo fit and proper persons.
They are subject to discharge by
tho commission at any time, for the
good of tho service. •}
