LARGE LOANS A SPECIALTY
J. J. HANESLEY, Americus, Ga.
Entomologist Worsham to
Eight Boll Weevil.
Anticipating by some years the en
trance of the boll weevil into Georgia,
State Entomologist Worsham is lire
paring to establish an experimental
cotton farm near Americus the com
ing season. The field will he planted
with a variety of cotton which
hopes will develop sufficiently early
to resist the attacks of the weevil
which usually does not get in its
work until late in the season.
The exact location of the field has
not been announced, though Prof.
Worsham was in Americus a few
days ago looking at various plots
ground around the city. As the plant
lug season will soon be on, it is
pected that the exact site selected will
be known in a few days.
Two reasons influenced Prof. Wor
sham in selecting Sumter county
the location of an experimental farm—
this is a great cotton producing coun
ty. and the climate is mild. I'nder
these conditions the experiment can
both be carried on with the greatest
chances of success, and the object les
son will be accessible to the greatest
number of cotton growers.
Reports from the Government ex
perts would indicate that the
boll weevil Is traveling eastward at
the rate of about sixty-five miles a
year, and is already half way across
the state of Mississippi. It Is cal
culated that it will reach the Alabama
line this season. In three or four
more seasons the weevil w’ould
nlmost within striking distance
this section.
Gy taking up the matter at once
Prof. Worsham hopes to produce
variety of cotton which will resist
the insect and when the army of in
vasion comes knocking at the door,
it will be met with solid fitdds of cot
ton upon which the hlthrro deadly
weevil will charge In vain. The new
kind if cotton will also lie designed
to resist the black tor already prev
nlent in many Georgia counties.

The Secret of Long Mfc
A French scientist lias discovered
one secret of long life.* His method
deals with the blood. But long ago
millions of Americans had proved
Electric Hitters prolongs life and
makes it worth living. It purifies,
enriches and vitalizes the blood, re
builds wasted nerve cells. Imparts
life and tone to the entire system.
Its a godsend to weak, sick and de
bilitated people. "Kidney trouble had
blighted my life for months,” writes
W. M. Sherman, of Gushing, Me., “but
Electric Bitters cured me entirely.”

STOCK FEED IN STATE
Sumter Will Receive Its
Prorata Share.
Sumter is one of the 117 counties
which are not using state convicts
under the old law, and which have
been participating in the division of
tile net funds arising from convict
hire, and these counties are anxious
to know just where they stand with
reference to the remainder of that
fund paid to the state by the losses
for the last quarter of 1908.
This money will be paid for the
first quarter of 1909.
The total amount of this fund will
be, approximately, $180,000, for the
six months period.
Under the old order of things
least $110,000 of that amount would
have been distributed to those
counties, the balance being used for
the maintenance and supiiort of the
state's prison establishment.
Now, the legislature has appropria
ted $150,000 for the maintenance and
support of the prison department for
1909, to come out of the receipts
from convict hire. As the receipts
from convict hire will ceasei after
April 1, the only way to get the ap
propriation is to lake It out of the
proceeds for the last quarter of 1908
and the first quarter of 1909.
That is the reason the state treas
urer Is holding up this money and has
not sent out that for the last quarter
of 1908.

times for five or six years, and l am
\ ery much pleased with the results.
I was troubled with weak kidneys for
some time and It seemed as If the
muscles of my bladder were very
weak. When suffering from one of
these attacks I procured Doan's Kid

It Is possible that luck may play an important part In the quick mak
ing of fortunes, hut it has nothing lo do with fortunes accumulated from
the savings of labor.

woman who will take this method of saving from his or her salary wilt
eventually reach the desired goal.
This Bank welcomes the accounts of those people who are working

Bear Sirs: North Dakota has
pure paint law and Is branding tile
paint-manufacturers. Here's how
one of ’em gets the hot Iron.
Almost half of his "oil" is benzine
and water; more than half of his
“pigment" Is whiting Imrytcs and
such.
Benzine and water dry-out in a
few minutes and hours; they don't do
any harm. Those "pigments** don't
dry-out; and perhaps they don't do
much harm.
Is that what paint Is for; not to
do harm? I)o you pay $5 a gallon
for paint and putting it on, not to do
much harm?
The lead zinc and oil in that
■paint” Is a little less than half
and the trash Is a little more than
half.
How many gallons, half trash and
hnlf paint, will It take to paint a 10-
gallon job two coats? how many
coats, half trash and half paint, will
It tnke to cover? and wlmt'll become
of those pigments not paint?
And reckon the costs; you can
roughly. Half trash, 20 gallons. $5
a gallon, $100; 10 gallons Devoe, $50.
A gallon of trash or paint put on !s
$5.
