Weak and unhealthy kidneys are re
sponsible for much sickness and suffering,
therefore, if kidney
trouble is permitted to
continue, rcrioas re
sults ore most likely
to follow. Your other
organs may need ct •

neys most, ’ because
they do most* and
should have attention
first. Therefore, when
yonr kidneys are weak or out of order,
yon can understand how quickly ycur en

seems to fail to tlo its dutv.
If yon arc tick or “ feel badly," begin
taking the great kidney remedy. Dr.
Kilmer's Swamp-Root. A trial will con-1
vince yon of its great merit.
The mild and immediate effect of
Swamp-Root, the great kidney and
bladder remedy, is soon realized. It
stands the highest because its remarkable
health restoring proiiertics hare been
proven in thousands of the most distress
ing cases. If you need a medicine yon
should lure the best.

The underlying thought of the

The large territory of moat of the

The first brooms ever made In Am-
erlcus were displayed and put
sale yesterday morning at W. E.
Brown's. They were manufactured by
Mr. 8. P. Gray, who removed to Am
ericas some weeks ago with the pur
pose of raising broom corn and man
ufacturing brooms. Mr. Gray, it will
he recalled, rented the Chamblls3
place near the city and Is now pre
paring to put In his first crop of
broom corn.
The brooms, of which there are
several qualities, show from their ap
pearance that they were made by an
expert in that line. Mr. Gray has had
considerable experience os a broom

Broom corn, Mr. Gray stated to. a
Times-Recorder representative yes
terday, la now higher In price than
It has been In fifteen years or more.
Mr. Gray was willing to contract
take all of the broom corn raised this
season at five cents a pound. It Is
stated that from 500 to 1,000 pounds
can be raised on an acre, according to
the fertilizer and character of the
soli. Two crops can be made of
broom corn In a season, or one rrop
of broom corn and a crop of some
other product. Planting begins about
April 1 and the crop Is ready for
harvesting In ninety to one hundred
days, or early In July.
It Is hoped by Mr. Gray that he
will be able to Induce other farmers
to experiment with the raising of
broom corn. He is getting In seed now
for the dwarf variety, which
four to five feet In height This Is
regarded as the most satisfactory for
good brooms.
There Is apparently no reason why
broom and whlak factory should
not flourish here. There Is none
nearer than 8avannah In one direc
tion and probably Atlanta In the
other. The broom corn can be rais
ed right outside of the city, and It
does look ss though the products of
such a factory should be disposed of
over the Urge extent of tributary ter
ritory without trouble. It Is to such
small Industries that Amerlcus must
look If it U to thrive and expand. One
good motto for Amerlcus to adopt
would be the one Atlanta made Its
slogan some years ago. ‘‘Buy every
thing made at home. Atlanta goods
for Atlantans.” Amerlcus goods for
Amerlcus people U the right and pat
riotic Idea.

Capt. John A. Cobb is dissatisfied
bccruse the Prison Commissioners of
Georgia have never visited Sumter
county and are accordingly unac
quainted, so far.ss personal knowledge
goes, with the conditions existing In
the banner county of the State. He
feels that It la due Sumter that these
officials visit Sumter, inspect the op
portunities here for a prison farm and
otherwise make themselves familiar
with what this county offers In the
way of agricultural opportunities.
In order to give concrete expres

AGRICULTURAL COMMITTEE
Mr. Ralph Smith, the Atlanta. Jour
nal's Washington correspondent says:
Dudley 31. Hughes, who succeeds
Elijah B. Lewis as representative
from the third district, Is mighty anx
ious to become a member of the house
committee on agriculture, but tho
chances are against him. Mr. Hughes
realises this himself, but he has not
given up hope, neither hss he quit
trying. The agricultural committee
of the house—a committee which
■cores of Democrats and Republicans,
too, strive to get on, and It Is no easy
matter to land, especially for a new
member.
“It la customary to never change
the personnel of a standing committee
and membership on many of the Im
portant ones comes only through va
cancies caused by death, defeat
resignation. Mr. Hughes has been
here for some time familiarising him
self with the customs and practices of
congressmen, meeting the member*
and "learning the ropes.”
