RUTH COUNCIL.
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Council.
A tire which entailed a propery loss
of $7,000 swept the large two-story
barn and smaller outbuildings on the
Bagley-Ray plantation two miles out
of Americus. at I o’clock Saturday
morning, making a clean sweep of
buildings in the vicinity.
Ten fine mules, a pair of fine buggy
horses, two Jersey cows and a num
ber of stock hogs met death in the
fearful holocaust.
Four smaller cribs .and barns burn
ed with the large one.
Eight hundred bushels corn. 400
bushels peas, probably a hundred tons
hay, together with agricultural im
plements and other contents of the
buildings went up in smoke. Abso
lutely nothing was saved, so rapidly
did the flames spread. |
Mr. Ray. who was quickly upon the
scene, had twenty mules driven from j
the burning building and these were
saved, while ten mules and two fine!
horses perished.
The livestock belonging to the Bag-
ley-Ray-Gober Orchard Co., were not
in this lot, being at another point in
the plantation, and thus escaped in
jury. The mules and other livestock
burned belonged to Messrs Ray and
Bagley individually.
Mr. Bagley came down from Atlanta
view the scene of terrible destruc
tion thus wrought.
estimates the total property loss
it $7,000 upon which there was insur
nee of $.'5,000 upon the building and
[vestock together.
This v will reduce the net loss
about $4,000, or over.
Tlie scene presented yesterday, with
»he dead bodies of horses, mules
cows and fine hogs half-incinerated
was distressing in the extreme. The
residence Is some distance from
scene of the fire, and with other large
buildings, were unharmed.
The barn was one of the largest
in the county, a modern two story
structure that cost about $2,500.
Mr. Ray did not know yesterday the
origin of the fire, but there can
little doubt that it was Incendiary. He
was up at 11 o’clock and all was well
with Lavadura to help you. Simply put a
tablespoonful in the tub, when you soak the
clothes over night, then rinse in clear water
and—your work is done.
