GOOD ADVICE TO BANKERS
Do nothing to foster and encourage speculation. Pursut a straightfor
ward, upright, legitimate banking business. Treat your customers liberally,
bearing in mind that the bank prospers as its customers prosper."
The above Is a portion of an address delivered In 1863 to National
Banks by Hon. Hugh McCulloch, the first U. S. Comptroller of the Currency
The advice Is still sound. This bank has adopted it as a creed, and Is
following It conscientiously.
We solicit your account on the above basis.

financiering are over, according to
Ills statement to newspaper repre
sentatives in Pasadena, where the
transportation magnate is saying with
members of his family. Mr. Harrl-
man stated that his physicians have
told him his time to step down and
out from the turmoil of'Wall street
has arrived and that If he wishes
prolong bis life he must retire.
There were evidences that Mr.
Harrlman's condition Is alarming
members of his family and his physi
cians. While not affected by any spe
cific ailment, he is nervous and ex
citable. In making known his Inten
tion to retire from business life and
leave the active work of his great
transportation system to others, he
spoke earnestly and apparently with
realization that his condition is
serious. He called newspaper repre
sentatlves to his cottage ostensibly to
tell them about his work of railway
development in Mexico, but he had not
proceeded far with the Interview un
til he began to talk of himself and bis
health. Finally he said:
The time for me to retire and
turn the affarls of transportation over
to others has arrived. My physicians
tell me that my condition la auch that
rest from active duties is imperative,
and I mean to comply with their ad
vice.”

LINE TO ANDERSON
The Americus electric railway ayi-
tem may be extended to Anderson-
vllle at no distant date, according to
reports coming from that little city
regarding such a possibility. An Am
dersonvllle news special states that
Messrs. ,W. S. Taylor, Lancaster, Po.;
8. F. Evans, Lancaster, Pa.; A. N.
Walker, Nicholson, Pa.; W. A. Dod
son, Americus; and O. W. Glover, Am
ericus, examined the surroundings of
Andersonville the past week, and It
la rumored their object waa to de
cide the practicability of running an
electric line between that place and
Americus. Such an enterprise has
long been discussed here as a feasible
proposition, but It Is scarcely consid
ered probable that any Immediate
steps in that direction will be taken.
