Preston, Ga„ Oct. 20.—Tire big dry
goods store or Mr. J. I,. Horn was
visited late Tuesday night by an un
known party and about fifty dollars in
cash, some Jewelry and two or three
revolvers were taken. The robbera
made their way Into the store through
the hack window, breaking out one of
the big iron bars which were supposed
to insure against burglary, by means
of a pick, belonging to the stock, a
large hole was picked out in one side
of the big iron safe and 'tvvns through
this they procured the money. Mr.
Horn's friends, while they regret very
much this loss and damage to prop
erty, are congratulating his good luck
in having deposited late Tuesday af
ternoon, only a few hours before,
about one thousand dollars. Detectives
are at work on the case, and the cul
prits will probably be caught.
Rev. Air. Williams, or Phenix City,
delivered a very impressive sermon to
a large audience Sunday, and at a
special meeting of the members Sun
day night was called to fill Rev. A. C.
Wellon’s place at the Baptist church
the ensuing year. Mr. Wellons has
been n very earnest worker in the
church here, and has made many
friends who regret to give hint up.
SI. Williams comes to us very
highly recommended, and we trust our
association with him will he both
pleasant and profitable.
Sirs. J. H. Strickland and Interesting
children, of Concord, are very pleas
antly visiting Sir. and Sirs. J. R,
Stapleton and Dr. and Sirs. J. F.

Silas Nina Alston has returned to
her home at Richland, after a pleas
ant visit to relatives here.

teen young ladles met at the .McAfee
Hotel with Sirs. SV. Fort .McAfee last
Wednesday afternoon and organized
an embroidery club, with .Miss Nettle
Burton as president. The second meet-
lug was held at .Miss -Margaret Bur
ton's Friday afternoon, where a pleas
ant hour was spent in fancy work,
followed by dainty refreshments.

Jennings left Wednesday for Ashburn

sister, Mrs. tacy Alctandon. The bride
is a loveable and popular woman, liav
lug a charm, which has made her the
cenire of a cordial social circle. Many

nouncement of her marriage. Mr.
Clark has a lucrative position and Is
held In high esteem by a large circle

One day this week there came into
our town from the 17th District—from
Hi,' plantation of Mr. Ed Timmerman,
?on drawn by four line well-kept
mules, and upon that wagon were ten
neat, merchantable bales of cotton.
Cotton now selling at 13 and 14 cent*
in round numbers, $65.00 per bale.
There was on this one wagon, f650
worth of farm produce, and still some
are ready to say farming doesn't pay.
How much better it would be for the
young men of the country, who are
docking to the towns, to remain In
the rural district, and cultivate the
fertile lands, and be numbered with
