THE AMERICUS WEEKLY TIMES-RECORDER. THURSDAY. JANUARY 6. 1910. Smokeless Until science discovered a way to construct the Automatic Smokeless Device, and make It completely dependable, all oil heaters had one common great fault—smoke. ► With the advent of the Automatic Smokeless Device, and Its practical application to the p£gf£(>l]<]g^ Oil Heater [(Equipped with Smokeless Device)] the smoke problem was successfully solved. i The Perfection Oil Heater is the only heater equipped with this Automatic Smokeless Device' which insures a steady, full-blowing heat, with the wick turned up as high as it will go, without a shred of smoke. Reverse the motion, turn the wick down—there’s no odor. The smokeless device automatically locks and prevents the upward movement of the wick beyond the proper exposure. That is the secret. This splendid result gives leadership to the Perfection. You may now have all the heat you want—when you want it—and where you want it—without the annoyance of smoke or odor. ' Brass font holds 4 quarts of oil, which permits a glowing heat for 9 hours. Brass wick tube—damper top—cool handle. Cleaned in a minute. The Perfection is beautifully finished in Nickel or Japan. Hudson of Amerlcus, state commissioner of agriculture, will not enter the race for Congress this year In opposition to Congress man “Dud” Hughes. Such, at least, is the information coming to Amerl cus, via Savannah, where Commission er Hudson spent a day this week and discussed politics to some extent, ac cording to the report. This unexpected bit ot news will bo read with Interest by Col. Hudson's friends In the district, who confidently expected the early announcement of his candidacy. The Morning News contains the following story: “Farmer" Tom Hudson is not going to be a candidate for Congress from the Third district of Georgia in the next general election. This statement Is based upon the commissioner's talk with a representa tive of the Morning News at the Scre ven House yesterday, where he stopped while In Savannah. Mr. Hudson came here from Amerlcus, spending the day with friends. He returned home In the afternoon. For several months it has been re ported time and again that Mr. Hud son would be a candidate In opposi tion to Dudley M. Hughes. Upon previous visits to the city Commissioner Hudson did not discuss politics, saying that he was farming and would take up politics later. Many friends construed this to mean he would be a candidate for Congress, as It had been passed around that M, Hudson would not object to going to Congress. Won't Run for Congress. Just what he will do two years hence Is only a matter of conjecture. Be yond saying that he would not be a candidate for Congress In 1910 Mr. Hudson would go no further. He will be a candidate for re-election ns com missioner of agriculture and will have no opposition, having filled the office the satisfaction of everyone. As a booster Mr. Hudson features. He never falls to say something good for the state and Is always optimistic. “Every time I make a trip my stock enthusiasm over conditions grows," snhl he. “We have the best lands to found In the country, and I am con' fldent an era of advancement such as we have never seen Is dawning. The fanners are fast learning that their work Is a science, and are adopting methods that Insure better returns. New Methods of Forming. My own opinion about the cotton proposition is that the acreage In Georgia will not be Increased. It should not be, and I don't believe It will be. Diversified farming Is what we need to properly develop every re source of the soil, and those who try this get sufficient encouragement to go at It on a larger scale. We hope to get all the farmers to realize the advantage to be derived from not placing their entire depend ence upon cotton. “The acreage devoted to oats and wheat this year showed a decided In crease over previous years, and 1 think next year will be an even bet ter one. I think there will be more corn planted, too. “We grow Just as much corn to the acre as farmers In the West do, and eventually our farm lands are going to be worth as much an acre as the lands ot the West. We bave the cli mate and the soil, and with opportuni ties to grow several crops a year far mers will be able to make a most ex cellent showing. Farm Lands as Investment “In my opinion farm lands make an Investment that should not be over looked. Particularly In South Geor gia are values making an advance, know ot one Instance where a farm was purchased four years ago for $11 an acre. Today the Bame farm can be sold for $25 an acre. You can double your money on farm lands. Every year adds to the value of hold ings of this nature. . “Good roads have contributed largely to this condition of affairs. You will find land Is being sought most where the counties are making the most advancement In good roads building. Nothing adds more to county than good roads. Commission ers of roads In various counties have found this out. and the tendency everywhere seems to be for more and better roads.” Mr. Hudson will resume his tour of the state in the Interest of agricul tural developments early In January.
