D The -^^^^Lamp
A bright and steady light depends upon the
construction of the lamp.
The best skill has put forth its best effort in
perfecting the Rayo Lamp.
As the air is fed to the flame—so does the light
burn. The easy-flowing current of air through
the air-tube of the Rayo Lamp secures a uniform
light, with never a flicker or flare.
The ideal family lamp. Made of brass through
out and beautifully nickeled.
The Rayo is a low-priced lamp, but you cannot
get a better lamp at any price.
Once a Rayo user, always one

: Forty thousand dollars worth of
j negotiable bank notes and valuable
I papers, together with three books be-
I longing to the Bank of Kllavilie, and
I which disappeared most mysteriously
. a year and a half ago. were found
| Thursday, hidden In the old courthouse
at Kllavilie.
I And the (lading of the lost valuables
1 naturally caused greatest interest !n
the little town, as well as in Americus,
when the story was phoned here at 4
! o'clock.
For the long lost property was own-
I ed by the Bank of South Western
I Georgia; tile parent bank of the Eila-
I vllle institution.
| The valuable find was made by Co!
Charles R. McCrory and Mr. James
• Robinson in the boxing, or casing, of
the old courthouse, though search had
been made for them there before,
! well as In the bank building and in
other places,
j The long lost notes were In the little
satchel which former Cashier Walters
carried frequently in trips to Americus
and elsewhere.
: *
All Notes Are Intact.
Tho entire amount of the notes, It is
understood, are there Intact, and as
good as gold. Assistant Cashier Philo
Smith, of the Bank of South Western
Georgia, went over at once upon learn
ing of the find and brought the lot ol
notes and books to Americus last
night.
And thus closes the final mystery in
connection with their loss.
More than $25,000 of the lost notes
had already been collected long since
by the bank, the books of the Ellavllle
branch establishing the record. And
with the recovery of the lost notes tho
remaining $15,000 will be collected
without difliculty.
Many of the customers of the Ella
vllle bank paid their indebtedness
without hesitation, and there will be
| no trouble in collecting the remainder
of the notes, yet unpaid.
j Mystery of Lost Securities.
| In August, 1908, Cashier Walters,
the Ellavllle Bank, took his life while
i here in Americus upon a business
1 trip. Investigation of the bank's af
fairs next day disclosed the missing
I notes and books. For weeks the search
for them was carried on, but they
I were never located.
' The records of the bank, however,
saved the lnstituion from any consid
erable loss and its business went
uninterruptedly, many notes being
paid, as stated.
The fact that Cashier Walters fre
quented the old courthouse, unused for
that purpose, led to a search there for
the papers. On the second floor is a
billiard table, where lovers of the
game oftlmes play. Mr. Walters went
there for that purpose.
He may have carried the notes there
and, ina moment of mental abberatloa
forgot the fact. Then, someone else
may have hidden them In the old
building.

Several gentlemen were in the old
building yesterday, and one of these
perchance found the hiding place and
the records as well. The pews spread
like wildfire and the little town was
soon agog over the discovery. The
Americus bank was notified, and the
note, brought here.
As stated, more than $25,000 of the
notes have already been collected by
the bank, which in August, 1908, offer
ed a reward of $500 for the return of
alt notes and books.
$100 Reward, $100.
Everything is down at work at the
Agricultural School and the school ,'s
moving on as if there had been no la
termission for the holidays.
It Is estimated that 98 per cent of
the pupils who attended during the
fall term are back again for the
spring term work. Possibly not more
than ten per cent of the pupils return
ed to school after the first term that
the school was in operation.
Since that time great Improvements
have been made all along the line.
The students now at the school are
the kind that'como to stay.
A large number of new students are
now at the school. Though all the
girls have been moved to the GirlB 1
Home, every place has been taken
in the boys’ dormitory. No others can
be admitted in the dormitory till a va
cancy may occur. Quite a number
of names are already on file, but It is
not known whether they will wait for
a vacancy to occur or attend sqme
other school.
Interest has been manifested in the
school all over the state and tho
South. It has been the purpose of the
management to make the school move
than local and as broad as the country,
but it now seems that some restric
tion will have to be put upon the pat
ronage, or that tho state will have to
come to the relief and provide facili
ties for a more extensive operation of
the work.
While a few more girls can he ad
mitted at the Girls’ Home, the former
Simmons residence, It Is expected that
within a week that the same condi
tions will prevail there as at the boys’
dormitory. Girls are now at the
school that have attended some of the
other schools of tho kind in the state,
while inquiries are coming from ail
sections.
Every department of the work at
the school has been well organized.
One new feature will be the establish
ing of the poultry yards at the Girls'
Home on Felder street. This depart
ment, hereafter, will bo operated ex
clusively by the girls.
The military feature of the school
has grown to such proportions that
further equipment must be provide].
It has been decided to dispense with
the old army rifles now being used
and to provide a moro up-to-date gun
This will be done at an early date.
The cadets are now organizing a mill'
tary band and will soon be ready to
appear In public on state and other
occasions.
There Is a great future ahead for the
school. Americus and Sumter have
cause to be proud of this school that,
like her roads. Is giving the city and
the county a state-wide reputation.
