For several months he had been closely confined to his home by the conditions are favorable. Superintendent Christian of the county roads department now has the greater portion of his convict force at work upon the road and is making excellent progress along the line. His wife died many years ago and more recently death elalmed two sons, one of whom, Dr. Clebe Jowers, resided in Americus. The deceased was 78 years of age. The funeral was held Friday after noon at Preston and largely attended. kor mills. The distance to the Schley county line is seven or eight mile3. Over on the Schley county side an other force Is hard at work In road building, and have already completed about four miles between Ellavilie and the county line. Schley's citizens are enthusiastic over the proposition, and many of the farmers are lending teams and labor in the work. The combined forces will soon bave completed a splendid highway from Americus to Ellavilie, with Anderson- ville In close touch. There is already every indication in the replies received that there will ae an increased demand for convicts and that It will be impossible to give tho counties all they want. Only thirty counties have replied to date, but all those which are using convicts not only want to keep their apportionment, but desire more. Four out of thirty do not want convicts— Two which have no state convicts are now asking for them—Crisp and Doug las. The twenty-four others like the plan so well that they want more. It Is ex pected all the replies will come in during February, probably after the February meetings of the various boards of county commissioners. Sheriffs Sale. GEORGIA—Sumter County. They desire the right and power to buy and own all kinds of real estate and personal property, and to sell such real estate and personal property at a profit, which real estate shall Include farm property, timber, mineral, and all other kinds of lands and real estate, Including city property; to own, rent, lease, lease out, lease from and sub-lease, they may desire from time to time, any of such real estate; to have the right to sell all kinds of real estate, stocks, bonds, notes, mortgages, and all kinds of negotiable papers, on commissions for other parties; to buy and sell all such paper In their own name for profit If they desire; to buy, own, and sell and handle, for commissions all other kinds of personal property; to have the power to repair and Improvo any kind of real estate handled by them on commission, or any real estate owned by them; and to liuve the right to con tract for liens of all kinds for such re pairs and Improvements on any kind of real estate held by them under op tion, or otherwise; to borrow money and execute mortgages, deeds and other kinds of liens to secure debt nnd borrowed money on all kinds of real estate above mentioned, and all kinds of personal property; to have the right to issue and sell stock and bonds of Bald corporation whenever a majority of the stockholders may so determine; to assume any kind of obligations In the way of accounts; to execute notes and other evidences of debt under such rules and regulations as may be adopt ed by the stockholders of said Com pany; to make all necessary by-laws and regulations, and to do all other things that may be necessary for the successful carrying on of said busi ngs, In tho conduct of the affairs o! the corporation; to sue and he sued and to have and uso a common seal 8. They desire for said corporation the power and authority to apply fbr and accept amendments to its charter of either form or substance, by a vote of a majority of Its Btock outstanding at the time.
