THE AMERICUS WEEKLY TIMES-RECORDER. THURSDAY, JANUARY 27.1910.
IN FAVOR OF BOYCOTT
IF PRICE IS LOWERED
Cheaper Food for Ameri-
cus the Cry ,Now.
While Americus people have not ap
plied the boycot on the Meat Tru'd,
people here are In sympathy with the
movement for protection that is sweep
ing the country like a tidal wave. It
Is a common fight against rapacity
and greed of the &eat monopolists. In
which the people are uniting.
Very little Western beef is sold !u
this market, where the supply of
home-raised beef Is abundant and
reasonable In price, but people here
feel the presure just the same.
On all shipped meats, lard and like
commodities the price Is always going
higher,
In many Georgia cities there Is or
ganized resistance to the demands of
the Meat Trust, and people are ab
staining from its use In any form for a
period of thirty days. And this fight
is being felt by the pockets of the meat
barons.
Here in Americus, where our supply
Is drawn wholly from the farms here
about, the choicest cuts of beef are
by the Trust, prices put on wings,
less price for other portions. But when
It comes to buying bacon, lard, side
meat or other commodities controlled
by the Trust, prices put on wings.
Kot only Is meat higher, but other
necessities likewise.
Igird has kept the pace of Increase,
and has jumped from the respectablo
price of 10 cents a pound to the almost
prohibitive price of 17, 18 and 19
cents a pound.
Butter, egges and flour, the house-
wlfo states, too, have kept the pace,
or set the pace, In the matter of In
creased cost of living, and ns a result
what has long been considered a ne
cessity has jumped Into the realm of
luxury.
Kggs continue strong, while butter
Is robust In price and strength.
Breakfast bacon, the ever essential
breakfast dish, has Joined the cow Ir.
tho trip to the moon, and a crisp slice
13 worth Its weight In silver. Choice
breakfast bacon that has sold for yea's
at 11 cents n pound Is now put on tho
market at 19 cents, and In smaller lots
brings fancy figures.
Vegetables, too, are Increased In
prices from 20 to 50 per cent over the
prices of a year ago.
Whereas It was formerly considered
an Insult to bo handed a lemon, It Is
now a mark of favor, for this citrus
fruit brings, In tho’box, 20 cents a
dozen, whereas two years ago they
were considered high at 10 cents a
dozen.
Oranges, owing to a banner crop, aro
not proportionately as high, but still
are from 2 to B cents a dozen over
the prices asked a year ago.
Irish potatoes, the ever essential
starchy food for three meals a day,
are on a rise, now being from 10 to 20
per cent higher than a year ago,

Better Service in Georgia
Probable.
Delayed trains In Georgia will be a
subject of investigation and possible
action by the railroad commission,
this week.
The question has been brought to
the commission's attention largely
through newspaper publications, but in
some instances also byindividual com
plaint, and the evil has become so no
torious that the commission feels call
ed upon to do something about it.
The trouble Is due chiefly to Inter
state trains, which are late in making
their connections outside the state;
hence are always or nearly always be
hind schedule time in running through

That some remedy is needed is evi
dent from the frequent complaints

Are You
Honest?
With your land when for the
sake of saving a few dollars
you use a fertilizer whose
only recommendation is its
analysis. It requires no spe
cial knowledge to mix mate
rials to analyses. The value
of a fertilizer lies in the ma
terials used, so as not to
over feed the plant at one
time and starve at another.
